Yıldız Demir Çelik Publishes 2023-2024 Sustainability Report

Yıldız Demir Çelik (YDÇ) has released its 2023-2024 Sustainability Report, which presents environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance within the framework of a "sustainability at every step" approach. Prepared in accordance with Global Reporting Standards (GRI), the report presents the company's performance in resource efficiency, energy management, digitalization and social contribution through a transparent and comprehensive perspective.

Yılmaz: "We are integrating resource efficiency and circular economy into all our processes"
Yıldız Demir Çelik General Director Selçuk Yılmaz commented on the report as follows:

"For us, sustainability means using every drop of water, every unit of energy and every piece of raw material more efficiently, and leaving behind a more livable world for future generations. By placing this approach at the center of our work, we are integrating resource efficiency and circular economy into all our processes.

With the galvanizing and slitting line we commissioned in 2023, we strengthened our production capacity while contributing to regional employment. In 2024, we increased our capacity utilization rate to 80%, and by exporting 42% of our production, we reinforced our position in global markets.

The steps we have taken in water management, waste recovery and energy efficiency are reducing our environmental impact. In the coming period, we are preparing plans for transitioning to renewable energy and developing projects aimed at hydrogen use."

Pioneer in Sustainable Water Management
YDÇ, the first steel manufacturer in Turkey to use recovered greywater in production, uses greywater for 95% of its total water consumption. Through projects implemented in 2024, 23.5% of the water used was recovered. The company aims to further increase its wastewater recovery rate and reduce hazardous waste per ton.

Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduction
YDÇ is developing medium and long-term plans for transitioning to renewable energy while focusing on R&D efforts aimed at hydrogen use in place of fossil fuels. It also aims to reduce its carbon footprint through investments in solar and wind energy.

Digitalization and Social Contribution
The company plans to implement digitalization in production processes, artificial intelligence applications and fintech-compatible projects. On the social side, it supports gender equality by increasing the percentage of female employees to 10%, and spreads a sustainability culture across all stakeholders through employee participation and training projects.
