UNO Works Toward a Sustainable World
UNO Works for a Sustainable World
Aiming to set an example for the sector in building a sustainable future, UNO assumes its responsibilities towards the environment, people and economy through the business model it has developed.
Working tirelessly every day to enable all consumers to access healthy nutrition, UNO presents its achievements across all areas—from research and development projects to reducing its carbon footprint—through projects featured in its 2020 Sustainability Report, and emphasizes its concern for both the world and society with the slogan "Eat Well, Protect the World."
UNO Deputy General Manager Evin Pehlivanlı said that environmental and social issues are a major source of concern for future generations. Pehlivanlı stated: "Concerns about the future are growing. We want to live healthy, and for that we need good nutrition and a healthy world that can provide this nutrition to future generations as well. With awareness of these concerns, as UNO, which has worked continuously for 30 years, we are pleased to share transparently with the public what we are doing and our objectives for a more nutritious and healthy life on behalf of the environment, society and economy."
Managing waste in accordance with international standards and certified with Zero Waste Certification, UNO reduced water, electricity and natural gas consumption by 5% through improved business models implemented in 2020. Optimizing distribution operations with artificial intelligence-based algorithm software, UNO achieved 20% fuel savings while reducing its carbon footprint.
With Turkey's first and only TÜBİTAK-approved Bread Research and Development Center, UNO contributes to sustainable nutrition as a sector pioneer.
While fulfilling its responsibilities to protect the world's future, UNO brings the finest grain to tables, blending and diversifying UNO FullGrain grains with ancient grains, offering products without added sugar, additives or preservatives to consumers across all 81 provinces of Turkey every day.
Speaking of the many new projects they have implemented for a better future, Pehlivanlı said: "Under our Heritage Local Seed Project, under the leadership of the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, we provided purchase guarantees through contract farming for Kavılca Wheat planted in the Ardahan-Kars regions.
The 13,000-year-old Kavılca wheat stands out not only for its higher vitamin and mineral values compared to modern wheats and high antioxidant capacity. It is also valuable because it is drought-resistant and grows without requiring fertilizer and chemical pesticides. Because climate change and drought threaten the sustainability of food, we support projects aimed at expanding the production of drought-resistant heritage seeds."
With 2,500 employees and producing 1.5 million loaves of bread per day, UNO continues to work for a sustainable world across all areas, from production processes to distribution and all other operations.
