In Turkey, a new Assembly has been established at the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), the representative body of professional apex organizations.

Yavuz Eroğlu Elected First Chair of TOBB Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), which represents professional apex bodies in Turkey, has established another new council. The Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council was created within TOBB to represent the plastics, rubber and composites sector, which has an economic size of TRY 150 billion. Yavuz Eroğlu, Chair of the PAGEV Board of Directors, was elected to the position of Council Chair.

The Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council, whose establishment the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey recently completed, held its first meeting. To the position of Chair of the Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council—which will represent 40 companies from three sectors with a combined turnover of TRY 30 billion and a market size of TRY 150 billion—Yavuz Eroğlu, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Plastics Manufacturers Research, Development and Education Foundation (PAGEV), was elected. Enver Bakioğlu, Chair of the Flexible Packaging Manufacturers Association (FASD), was appointed Vice Chair.

"We Will Be the Sector's Strongest Voice"

Yavuz Eroğlu, elected Chair of the Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council, said: "As the unifying force of the plastics, rubber and composites sector, we will continue our work with greater strength. With the new structure in the TOBB Council, we have achieved access to a legal and more inclusive platform. The established council includes our companies, civil society organizations from relevant sectors, and public institutions with authority to regulate and oversee the sector. Our objective is to identify sector-specific problems through this structure, to develop dialogue between government and private sector for solutions in the best way possible, and ultimately to generate greater added value for the Turkish economy."

Yavuz Eroğlu, noting that the TOBB Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council is the highest body deriving its authority from law in the sector, said: "Plastics, rubber and composites are locomotive sectors in which Turkey ranks first in Europe and in the top five globally. To accelerate the momentum of these sectors and remove obstacles before them, we will increase public-industry cooperation, we will rapidly begin our activities to resolve our sector's problems and will work with a solutions-oriented approach. By joining forces, we will increase the pace of development."

The Turkey Plastics, Rubber and Composites Sector Council, established within TOBB—the apex organization of the business world to which all industrial and commercial chambers and exchanges in Turkey are affiliated—encompasses a very broad spectrum. Together with representatives of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and the Ministry of Economy, among the 40 distinguished members are civil society organizations such as PAGEV, EPS Derneği, İKMİB, Kompozit Derneği, FASD, PLASFED, SEPA, PAGDER, EVSİD, and Kauçuk Derneği, as well as major Turkish companies including Abdioğulları Plastik, Adopen Plastik, Akplas Plastik, B-Plas Plastik, Cam Elyaf, Dizayn Plastik, Elif Plastik, Esen Plastik, Fırat Plastik, GF Hakan Plastik, Işık Plastik, Korozo Ambalaj, Köksan Plastik, Mete Plastik, Naksan Plastik, Pakpen Plastik, Petkim Petrokimya, Plasmar Plastik, Polibak Ambalaj, Polinas Plastik, Ravago Petrokimya, Sasa Polyester, Sem Plastik, Sepaş Plastik, Superfilm Ambalaj, Sümer Plastik, Titiz Plastik, and Vatan Plastik, with a combined turnover approaching TRY 30 billion.
