Sustainability is an integral part of Abdi İbrahim's business strategy
Abdi İbrahim has been working to improve the lives it touches since 1912 and operates with the conviction that the world is borrowed from future generations, focusing on continuous improvement in all activities. Having achieved an important success story in sustainability for Turkey, Abdi İbrahim shared its progress both in Turkey and globally, along with steps taken with determination, in its published Sustainability Report. Since its establishment, Abdi İbrahim has aimed for sustainable success and systematically continues its work in corporate, social, environmental and economic areas together with internal and external stakeholders. Aiming to make a difference by focusing on the right issues in an increasingly complex world of needs, the company presents its development processes and results achieved through sustainability reports to the attention of its stakeholders and the public. As of 2010, Abdi İbrahim became a participant in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The company focuses on conducting its sustainability work within the framework of 10 global principles and publishes its Progress Statement every year. The report, prepared with an integrated approach incorporating the Core Principles with the requirements of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), consists of qualitative and quantitative data compiled from Abdi İbrahim's headquarters, production facilities and field units. In its 4th Sustainability Report covering the 2017-2018 period, Abdi İbrahim includes data on corporate, economic, human resources and environmental areas, as well as projects carried out systematically and comprehensively with internal and external stakeholders in light of the materiality and stakeholder engagement principles of GRI, UNGC and WEPs reporting requirements. Emphasizing that they give importance not only to economic impacts but also to social and environmental impacts in their activities, Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül stated that Abdi İbrahim works in cooperation with the private sector and civil society organizations in Turkey and the markets where it operates, within the framework of the basic principle of "improving lives". Continuing with his remarks: "As Abdi İbrahim, we work steadfastly in line with our corporate citizen vision. One of the initiatives that guides us in our sustainability work is the United Nations Global Compact, which we signed in 2010. The Global Reporting Initiative, another initiative, continues to shed light on our sustainability work. As a company that places great importance on supporting and employing women, we signed the Women's Empowerment Principles, a private sector initiative of the United Nations aimed at enabling women to participate in economic life at all levels and in all sectors, in 2017. In Abdi İbrahim's experience spanning over a century, women employees have always been an important point of strength. We are proud to say that since our founding generation, women employees have made significant contributions to every step forward in Abdi İbrahim's history. Abdi İbrahim is one of the pioneering organizations in achieving gender equality in the business world. Currently, the proportion of women employees in our company is 32%, and the proportion of women managers is 36%. We aim to take these figures even further," said Dr. M. Increasing its effectiveness in international markets, Abdi İbrahim has increased the number of countries to which it exports to over 60. Abdi İbrahim continues its R&D investments without interruption and regularly enriches its product portfolio to sustain this success. In line with its 2025 strategy work, Abdi İbrahim plans to continue growth in the Turkish market and with different strategies in focus markets. It also aims to strengthen its global presence through its subsidiaries with partnership structures in international markets, with strategies based on current and target markets. At the same time, aiming for growth by investing in biotechnology and consumer health areas that provide high value-added, Abdi İbrahim will focus on market leadership in Turkey in this area and the globalization of its brands. Contract manufacturing services, one of the greatest success areas of the 2020 strategy, will be among Abdi İbrahim's targets in Turkey and international markets. In 2017, the company laid the foundation for the Sterile Ophthalmology and Sterile Inhalation Production Facility and the Hormone Production Facility, and in 2018 opened AbdiBio, Turkey's largest biotechnology production facility. Abdi İbrahim also laid the foundation for the Sterile Injectable and Oncology Production Facility that same year. Having completed the development of 71 products and brought them to the licensing stage in 2017-2018, Abdi İbrahim obtained the license for Turkey's first biosimilar product in 2018. It also achieved success in obtaining ISO 13485:2016 certification for the wound dressing it developed with Ege University for chronic wounds. Abdi İbrahim launched the Rational Drug Use Campaign in 2012 on the issue of irrational drug use and conducted a second survey in 2017, sharing the results with the public and continuing its awareness efforts.In 2018, Abdi İbrahim was awarded the "Leadership in Humanity" award, the largest award in the 10th Human Values Awards. With AbdiBio, it won the "Biotechnology Investment" award at the 9th Golden Mortar Awards.
It also won an award in the "Industry Awards - Social Responsibility Project of the Year" category at the Doctorclub Awards with the Rational Drug Campaign. The only pharmaceutical company to win ÇEVKO's Green Dot Industry Award, Abdi İbrahim regularly carries out environmental protection investments and sets examples of environmental practices. Through a project it carried out for one product, Abdi İbrahim created an "Hope Forest" by planting 5,000 seedlings in the name of physicians in the forest area designated in Çanakkale-Lapseki. Based on the belief that the world we live in is borrowed from future generations, it bases all its activities on environmental protection, continuous improvement and efficient use of natural resources. In 2017, Abdi İbrahim achieved 43,225 m³ of natural gas and 3,481,200 kWh of electricity savings, while in 2018 it achieved 917,903 kWh of electricity savings. In 2017, by increasing the number of campaigns for certain products and reducing microbiological tests at 7 water points, it achieved 47 m³ of water savings. In 2018, water savings amounted to 1,050 m³. By changing the packaging design of certain products in 2017 and 2018, it achieved 12,283 kg of paper savings, thereby preventing the felling of 204 trees.Advertisement
