Siemens Energy and BASF Partner on Low-Carbon Emissions
Siemens Energy and BASF have signed a strategic partnership for low-carbon production in industrial applications. Work will begin initially on BASF's Ludwigshafen Project, with the two major companies aiming to advance hydrogen production, heat pumps and grid modernization. Key objectives include reducing carbon footprint and energy consumption in industrial processes, as well as contributing to the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Siemens Energy has entered into a partnership with global chemicals company BASF on the use of low-carbon emission technologies. The partnership aims to develop commercial products that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from BASF's chemical products. Through the collaboration, which will be realized with Siemens Energy's innovative product and service portfolio, BASF intends to expand its targets for reducing carbon emissions from chemical production. The first step will be the Ludwigshafen Project.
Siemens Energy Chief Executive Officer Dr. Christian Bruch noted that BASF, as an industry leader, is also pioneering the production of climate-compatible innovative products, stating: "By combining our strengths with BASF, we want to lay the groundwork for the implementation of new technologies and concepts through experience gained in pilot projects, and thereby play an active role in shaping the energy transition in the process industry. As a reliable and experienced partner for all types of energy systems, our strategic objective in our role is to help meet rising demand for goods and services while also contributing to achieving climate protection targets in a more sustainable manner."
BASF SE Board of Management Chairman Dr. Martin Brudermüller noted that they aim to use low-carbon emission technologies and are pleased to work with a partner like Siemens Energy on this, stating: "We need the necessary conditions and support to use such technologies on a large scale. For this, it is important that we have access to large quantities of renewable electricity at competitive prices."
