Schneider Electric's EcoStructure Platform and AVEVA's Digital Transformation Solutions Demonstrated Support for Industrial Sustainability Initiatives In the digital transformation of energy management and automation, Schneider Electric and AVEVA, which drives digital transformation and sustainability in industrial software, announced that their combined technology offering supports mining companies' sustainability initiatives in four key areas: energy efficiency, productivity improvement, adoption of low-carbon emission technology, and new environmentally friendly processes. Global decarbonization depends heavily on the sustainable production of minerals and commodities. A developing and healthy mining and metals sector is of major importance in supporting innovation in new technologies and materials needed for global economic growth, mitigation of climate change, environmental protection, and circular economy. Schneider Electric and AVEVA provide the tools that organizations need to make informed decisions to encourage people in mining, minerals, and metals value chains to be more strategic in their choices based on sound advice with sustainability in mind. They assist operators and managers in these choices, and by helping these organizations overcome some of the challenges associated with adopting sustainable practices, result in reduced operating costs. This thus offers an important advantage of satisfying all stakeholders. • The need to improve brand equity,
  • Reduction of adverse event risk,
  • Compliance with current and future regulations,
Ben Kirkwood, Senior Research Director at IDC Energy Insights WW Mining, said that technology plays a critical role in supporting mining companies. Kirkwood stated, "Efforts to reach sustainability targets and gain greater visibility and control over operations will enable corporate understanding and action relating to energy, water use, and operational environment management. [caption id="attachment_126501" align="aligncenter"] Ben Kirkwood[/caption]   IDC's global analysis of industrial companies' revenue growth and profitability shows that those with a consistent and ongoing sustainability-based strategy combined with a long-term, financed digital transformation agenda perform significantly better than their competitors."

Digitalization Supports Sustainability in Mining and Metals

While the IDC Technology Spotlight continues to receive negative feedback as the industry maintains a stagnant position on sustainability, it also reinforces the fact that platforms with enhanced analytics improve operational efficiency while increasing visibility of changes being made. Martin Provencher, Industry Director for Mining, Metals and Materials at AVEVA, noted that despite the clear benefits of digital transformation, the mining sector has so far been limited by legacy infrastructure, data inadequacies, and fragmented optimization programs. Provencher continued: "Increasingly devastating cyber attacks and growing mandates for decarbonized minerals have further underscored the importance of having high data availability to visualize enterprise-scale processes across global operations and adopting a secure, cloud-first approach. The combination of Schneider Electric's energy management solutions, automation systems and services with AVEVA's Digital Mining Transformation solutions enables our customers to transform traditional mining operations into intelligent, resilient, and sustainable enterprises." Corporate Knights recently selected Schneider Electric as the world's most sustainable company. According to IDC Technology Spotlight, Schneider Electric's EcoStruxture platform, together with AVEVA's Digital Mining and Metals Transformation solutions, can provide the operational and organizational insights needed for sustainable operations and improved decision-making through data collection and analysis. The partner companies aim to decarbonize mining, minerals, and metals value chains by providing an industrial IoT platform supported by technology and software components that enable energy management and automation capabilities.
