Opet to Meet Its Electricity Consumption from Solar Power

OPET, which operates with the aim of contributing to a sustainable future, has commissioned the Mahmutlar Solar Power Plant Project, which will meet the entire electricity consumption of its General Directorate building in Istanbul as well as its Körfez and Giresun Terminals through solar power. Generating electricity equivalent to the consumption of 1,500 households, the Mahmutlar Solar Power Plant will prevent 3,000 tons of carbon emissions annually while delivering the environmental equivalent of 145,000 trees to nature.

OPET, operating with the goal of contributing to a sustainable future, has commissioned the Mahmutlar Solar Energy Plant Project, which will supply all electricity consumption of its General Headquarters building in Istanbul as well as its Körfez and Giresun Terminals from solar sources. The Mahmutlar Solar Energy Plant, generating electricity equivalent to 1,500 households, will prevent 3,000 tons of annual carbon emissions while also contributing 145,000 trees to nature.

OPET, continuing its operations with the vision of being a pioneer in the transformation of the energy sector, has signed another industry first with steps to meet its electricity consumption from renewable energy sources. Having recently commissioned the Mahmutlar Solar Energy Plant (GES), completed within the scope of Koç Holding Selfie Project in the Demirci District of Manisa, OPET will supply all electricity consumption of its General Headquarters building in Istanbul as well as its Körfez and Giresun Terminals from solar energy. With the Mahmutlar GES, which will produce 5,000 MWh of electricity annually, electricity generation equivalent to 1,500 households will be achieved, while significant environmental gains will be realized. By meeting its electricity needs from environmentally friendly renewable energy sources through the Mahmutlar GES project, OPET will prevent 3,000 tons of annual carbon emissions while providing an environmentally friendly solution and contributing 145,000 trees to nature.

"A Transformative Step for the Sector"
Stating that this investment is a transformative step for the sector in terms of environmental responsibility as well as electricity generation, OPET General Manager Özgür Kahramanzade said,
"The Mahmutlar GES is a very concrete reflection of OPET's commitment to sustainability. When making investment decisions, we place great importance on considering not only economic value but also social and environmental impacts. At this point, we have established a structure that meets our electricity needs directly from the sun and feeds any excess to the grid. We are proud to be among the first examples in the fuel sector that meet their electricity consumption with their own generation through a solar energy investment of this scale. Today, the energy sector is undergoing major transformation. As OPET, we are moving forward not just as an observer of this transformation but as an active player, developing projects. Our renewable energy investments are an indicator of this. In the coming period, we will continue to strengthen our presence in sustainable energy with new environmentally conscious, efficient and technology-focused projects."

Contributing Green Energy to the National Grid
The Mahmutlar GES, with a total installed capacity of 2.76 MW, designed to meet all electricity consumption of OPET's Körfez and Giresun terminals as well as its General Headquarters building, will contribute to Turkey's green energy transition by supplying excess generation to the national grid. Working with project partners Entek Elektrik, Solareg, Solares Enerji A.Ş., and conducting field implementation processes with ASC Enerji, OPET paid great attention to appropriate land selection by taking into account the consumption profiles of its facilities during the project development phase.

Electricity for Marmara and Mersin Terminals Will Come from Ozanca GES
Following the Mahmutlar GES, the Ozanlar GES investment continues in the Golmarmara District of Manisa, also within the scope of the Koç Holding Selfie Project. The Ozanca GES, which will have an installed capacity of 5.7 MW, was developed taking into account OPET's electricity needs for its Marmara and Mersin terminals. Panel installation work is ongoing for the project, which is planned to be completed and commissioned by the last quarter of 2025.
Developing comprehensive strategies to reduce carbon emissions in line with its sustainability vision, OPET is working in alignment with Turkey's "2053 Net Zero Emissions" target as well as Koç Holding's "2050 Carbon Neutral" goal. In addition to the two major solar energy investments, the company, which promotes environmentally friendly practices at its "Smart Stations" and offers solutions that provide energy savings, is also standing out with projects that meet all electricity energy needs of its stations with solar energy plants installed on canopies.
