Ode Yalıtım Receives Zero Waste Certificate

ODE Yalıtım Awarded Zero Waste Certificate ODE Yalıtım's ODE Production Campus in Eskişehir, which has gained prominence through environmentally friendly practices and was recognized with the 'Investment of the Year' award in 2018, has earned the Zero Waste Certificate issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. ODE Yalıtım, one of Turkey's largest insulation companies with 100 percent domestic capital, has taken another significant step by adopting the United Nations' universal call to action, the 'Sustainable Development Goals', and has earned the Zero Waste Certificate issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The company was recognized for this certificate through the Zero Waste Management System it established at its Eskişehir production campus, which also won the 'Investment of the Year' award at the 'Insulation Sector Achievement Awards' in 2018.

Sustainability Matters

ODE Yalıtım Assistant Technical General Manager Tarık Uslu provided information about zero waste and other environmentally friendly practices. Stating that sustainability forms the main framework of the issues they focus on for the future, Uslu said, "Insulation, which is our field of activity, makes extremely important contributions to leaving a sustainable living environment for future generations by its very nature. The energy efficiency provided by insulation is an extremely important step in combating climate change, and it also provides economic benefits by reducing energy consumption. As one of the leading players in the insulation sector, we aim to support sustainability in environmental, economic and social terms."

13 Tonnes of Paper and 6 Tonnes of Plastic Recycled

Noting that they closely follow all activities in the green transformation process, particularly the EU Climate Law, through the Energy Efficiency Committee they created within the company, Uslu stated, "Through the Zero Waste Management System we established under the Zero Waste Project carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, we have made significant progress in a short time. As of today, by achieving zero waste in glass and metal, we have achieved water savings of 357.8 cubic meters. Through organic waste and vegetable waste oil, which we have also achieved zero waste status, we have saved 45.9 cubic meters of storage space. Thanks to zero waste motor oil, we have achieved energy savings of 84,830 kWh. In one year, by sending 13 tonnes of paper for recycling, we prevented the cutting of 217.2 trees. Through the recycling of 6 tonnes of plastic, we helped reduce petrol use by 14,649 litres. Through the paper and plastic we sent for recycling, we also prevented the emission of 2,492 kg of greenhouse gas to our planet. In short, we have already come very close to Europe's zero waste target it wants to achieve by 2050," he said.

Target: Obtain 60 Percent of Electricity from Solar Energy

Uslu also described their other environmentally friendly practices as follows: "We are the only insulation company with environmental product declarations (EPD) across all product groups. Additionally, a total of 16 of our product lines have earned EPD certificates. We continue our work to reduce our energy and water consumption. We conduct continuous improvement projects through A3 and Kaizen. We are currently continuing the installation of solar panels (photovoltaic) that will cover the entire roof of our Eskişehir facility, through which we will meet 60 percent of our electricity needs from solar energy. This system, which has an installed capacity of 2,400 kWp and is targeted to be commissioned in March 2022, is actually just a beginning for us. We aim to continue our investments in this field until we meet all our energy needs at our production facilities from renewable energy sources."
