Nestlé Waters Saves 500 Million Liters of Water

Nestle Waters Turkey has achieved 500 million litres of water savings over 10 years through projects focused on effective water management. According to a written statement from the company, Nestle Waters aims to return more water to nature than is used annually in its local basin operations by 2025 through locally developed solutions. Within this scope, Nestle Waters plans to implement over 100 projects worldwide, including Turkey, in areas such as afforestation, wetland restoration and water infrastructure improvement. The company, which has launched numerous projects enabling more efficient water use in the production process, reduced the water usage ratio for producing 1 litre of packaged water at its Kestel Bottling Facility in Bursa from 1.46 litres to 1.22 litres. Through reprocessing water used for hygiene practices with additional investments, the company achieved 137 million litres in additional water recovery, and through increasing the efficiency of carboy washing and rinsing operations in line with technological advances, it provided 153 million litres of water savings. Zeynep Sungu, Marketing and Corporate Communications Director at Nestle Waters Turkey, whose views are cited in the statement, said that their core priority is returning water to nature. Sungu, stating that through good practices, improvements, technology investments and effective projects in Bursa implemented by Nestle Waters Turkey, they have achieved approximately 500 million litres of water savings over the past 10 years and are ready to take greater responsibility in this area for the future of water, continued as follows: 'The United Nations draws the world's attention to water each year with a different theme to highlight the importance of freshwater resources and ensure their sustainable management. This year too, the value of water has been brought to the agenda with the theme 'Accelerating change through partnerships and collaboration'. On the other hand, in Turkey we recently witnessed a very significant process. The earthquake disaster affecting 11 provinces once again demonstrated the vital importance of water, while also showing how critical cooperation is for the future of water. As Nestle Waters Turkey, we provided strong support to this process through cooperation and partnerships. By partnering with local public institutions and trusted civil society organisations, we responded with all our strength to the needs of people in the earthquake zone. We delivered approximately 60 truckloads of water to those in need in the earthquake-affected areas to help heal wounds and accelerate the recovery process. We assisted the local population in accessing hygienically produced water and in consuming and using it in a healthy manner. Such a tragic experience has refreshed our memory about the vital value of water.
