LANXESS Receives High Sustainability Rating
LANXESS ranks first in Europe on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and second globally on DJSI World.
LANXESS has once again achieved high scores in sustainability: the specialty chemicals company ranked first in the "Chemicals" category of the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index (DJSI) with a score of 85 out of 100.
On DJSI World, LANXESS placed second, as it did in the previous year. The company achieved particularly strong results in product stewardship, water management and human rights.
Hubert Fink, Board Member of LANXESS AG, stated: "Sustainable, inclusive thinking and action support our corporate objectives, which is why it is anchored at every level of the company.
We view our improved rating in the updated Dow Jones Sustainability Index both as a confirmation and an incentive for our commitment."
In the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, companies are evaluated in the areas of environment, social responsibility and corporate governance. DJSI World lists the top 10 percent of global companies assessed by sector, while DJSI Europe lists the top 20 percent of companies headquartered in Europe.
Multiple organizations have recognized LANXESS's commitment to climate protection, including its latest Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) endorsement.
The joint initiative of climate protection organization CDP, UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute and World Wide Fund for Nature validated the company's emission reduction targets and confirmed that LANXESS contributes to limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
This threshold is set by the Paris Agreement and is generally recognized as the tipping point for preventing climate catastrophe.
For this purpose, SBTi analyzed plans to reduce direct emissions in production (Scope 1), energy sources (Scope 2) and upstream and downstream value chain (Scope 3).
Three years ago, LANXESS set the goal of becoming climate-neutral in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040.
In 2022, the specialty chemicals company expanded its target for Scope 3 emissions to achieve climate neutrality. The company aims to reach this target by transitioning to sustainable raw materials, "green" logistics and a climate-neutral product portfolio.
