KPMG's Climate Protection Target Approved
KPMG's Climate Protection Target Receives Approval
KPMG has taken a significant step in line with the Paris Agreement's maximum temperature increase target of 1.5°C, recognized by the world's largest environmental reporting platform CDP. The Science Based Targets initiative has validated KPMG Global's carbon emission reduction target by 2030 to achieve its Net Zero Carbon goal.
KPMG Turkey Chair Murat Alsan stated, "The Science Based Targets initiative's approval of this target shows that we are on the right track. As KPMG, we are minimizing our carbon emissions while expanding our sustainability efforts to encompass all our stakeholders."
KPMG continues to progress with determination in combating climate change. The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a collaboration between the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), has validated KPMG Global's emission reduction target to achieve its "Net Zero Carbon Goal." Thus, KPMG, which commits to reducing its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, now has a verified, science-based emission reduction target.
''We Are On The Right Track With Our Climate Target''
KPMG Turkey Chair Murat Alsan stated that they continue to take responsibility in combating climate change. Alsan said, "SBTi is an initiative that defines, promotes, and independently evaluates organizations' targets for best practices in determining science-based climate change mitigation goals. As KPMG, as we shared in our KPMG Impact Plan published at the beginning of 2021, in line with our science-based emission reduction strategy aligned with the Paris Agreement, we committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, based on our 2019 emissions. The Science Based Targets initiative's approval of this target demonstrates that we are on the right track."
USD 1.5 Billion Investment Over Three Years
Alsan stated that KPMG, while fulfilling its responsibilities in minimizing the effects of climate change, is also expanding its sustainability efforts to encompass all its stakeholders, and continued as follows: "Combating the existential challenges facing the world is impossible alone, which is why collaboration is crucial. As KPMG, we have launched a three-year program to accelerate solutions for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) focused issues. The KPMG Impact Plan initiative, which aims for a sustainable future, seeks to create global value.
Over the next three years, we will invest more than USD 1.5 billion, specifically targeted at ESG practices. This strategy increases awareness of KPMG's responsibility to improve its impact on the world. Every service we provide, every project we create, every area in which we currently operate will incorporate ESG perspectives. Fulfilling all our commitments to further enrich KPMG's legacy of trust is the core objective here," he said.
