Kibar Holding Releases Sustainability Activity Report Kibar Holding has published its sustainability activities report for 2021. The group, which addresses sustainability in all aspects—combating climate change, transitioning to a circular economy, creating benefits for the environment and society, and ensuring equal opportunity—has taken significant steps toward increasing its contribution to the 2030 agenda set by the United Nations under its 2025 Sustainability Strategy. Kibar Holding, celebrating its 50th founding anniversary this year, continues its work on sustainability. In 2019, the group established the 'Kibar Group 2025 Sustainability Strategy' based on the principles, objectives and targets of the UN Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative standards, and continues its activities within the roadmap that will contribute to the UN's '169 targets' planned for implementation by 2030.

Our responsibility grows each year

Kibar Holding CEO and Sustainability Committee Chairman Haluk Kayabaşı, stating that they make it a principle to act with consideration for the needs of future generations in all their activities, continued as follows: "As you know, we are experiencing a dynamic process in the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. In this transition, the responsibilities that all players must assume increase every day. With this awareness and consciousness, we assume greater responsibility each year both to sustain the contribution we provide to our country's economy and to contribute to the future of our world. We present our economic, environmental and social performance to all our stakeholders within the framework of our principles of transparency and accountability. In our sustainability reports prepared in accordance with international standards, this year we ensured that our relevant indicators were verified within the scope of the International Assurance Audit Standard and Assurance Audits Relating to Greenhouse Gas Statements." At the same time, Kayabaşı, also serving as a member of the UN Global Compact Turkey Board of Directors and as a member of the Advisory Board of the Istanbul International Private Sector and Development Center (IICPSD), founded under the leadership of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), stated that Kibar Group, which exports nearly 3 billion dollars to more than 100 countries across 5 continents, has implemented 18 new projects in the last two years that will contribute to combating climate change and transitioning to a circular economy. In 2021, the group neutralized emissions from electricity consumption at Assan Alüminyum, one of its energy-intensive companies, reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity on a revenue basis by 39.3% and water intensity by 46.5%. With the investment in the Wastewater Recovery Facility at Asım Kibar Organized Industrial Zone, which became operational in 2018, the group enabled the recovery of nearly 500,000 cubic meters of water annually. The group increased the amount of recycled and reused raw materials by 50% over the last six years while achieving a 99.3% waste recovery rate. Through collaboration within its biodiversity conservation strategy, it restored an endangered plant species to the ecosystem and continues work on another plant species. As a signatory to the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), the group has implemented practices that support and strengthen women's employment, increasing the number of female employees by 39% and the proportion of women in senior management by 44% over the last six years. Through social responsibility projects, it has supported numerous solidarity campaigns for community benefit.

Work continues on "36 Targets"

Among the "36 Targets" that the group plans to achieve by 2025 in the sustainability field are: achieving economic growth within sustainability principles, increasing the number of female employees and the proportion of women in senior management positions, increasing professional development and participation, completing digital transformation across all companies, maintaining product and service quality at the highest standards, and implementing clean and environmentally responsible technologies and processes. The group also pursues concrete targets including ensuring sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources, increasing contribution to climate change mitigation efforts, increasing recycling and reuse, developing global partnerships, ensuring stakeholders adopt sustainable development principles and objectives, and increasing efforts toward social responsibility projects, continuing its work resolutely.
