Renewable Capa™ Molecule for Bioplastic Applications

Perstorp is introducing its biodegradable Capa™ product for bioplastics. This concept, combined with renewable content, is built on Capa™ lactide technology that enables the development of high-performance products optimized for different bioplastic applications. There is a strong global trend toward sustainability and the use of renewable materials. Each minute, 1 million plastic bags are used worldwide. Most of them are discarded into nature after use and remain there without processing. Using Perstorp's renewable Capa™ product developed for bioplastics, these bags could biodegrade in nature. "The market challenge has been combining high performance and biodegradability in a single product. With our renewable Capa™ concept, we are charting a new course by delivering high-performance products without compromising on sustainability," says Linda Zellner, Bioplastics Project Manager at Perstorp. German industrial gas and engineering company Linde and Turkish steelmaker Erdemir Group signed a letter of intent to establish a new air separation unit (ASU) in Iskenderun. The facility, scheduled to become operational in less than 20 months, will be the highest-capacity air separation unit operated by a gas producer in Turkey. Additionally, through this facility—Erdemir Group's first international business partnership in its 50-year history—Isdemir will be supplied with 1,700 tons/day of oxygen and nitrogen.
Linde Group CEO Dr. Wolfgang Büchele commented on the agreement: "We are very pleased with this partnership with Erdemir Group, Turkey's steel sector leader. By realizing this investment, we continue to invest in growing Turkey and demonstrate how we create added value for our customers."
Erdemir Group Board Chairman Ali Pandır stated: "Our vision of becoming a world-class company drives us to seek excellence in everything we do. Within this concept of excellence, alongside minimum cost, we place maximum reliability and efficiency. By working with industry leaders like Linde, we believe we will come closer to this vision," he said. The air separation unit will be designed and built by Linde's Engineering Division using state-of-the-art technology. Furthermore, through this agreement, Linde will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Isdemir's existing industrial gas production facilities. BASF's 2017 Color Trends collection offers cosmetics and personal care product manufacturers a range of color and effect pigments, active ingredients and formulations to help meet consumers' functional and emotional needs. Following comprehensive market research, the company identified next year's trends and carefully grouped colors to reflect them. BASF Personal Care Marketing Manager Valérie Pian-Parison stated: "BASF's 2017 Color Trends consist of four distinct beauty profiles, each based on cultural factors in the global market. To help our customers create products and brand experiences that truly resonate with consumers, we closely monitor regional and global developments as well as fashion shows," she said.

Steel Blue Shadow, part of the Smart and Seamless color collection, provides a striking look to the eyes and is easy to apply thanks to Cetiol® Ultimate, a 100 percent volatile, naturally-based emollient. Timica® Terra White provides an understated but delicate pearl white in Sleek White Nail Polish, while Reflecks™ MultiDimensions Shifting Sapphire creates a modern color effect ranging from blue tones to violet. Kathrin Menges, Board Member responsible for Human Resources and Chair of Henkel's Sustainability Board, made the following statement on the subject: "2015 was an important year for Henkel. We achieved interim targets for the first five years of our long-term sustainability strategy through 2030. But we will not stop here; we are already beginning to think about the next step. To continue sustainability efforts, we set new targets for 2020 and identified additional areas for action across the entire value chain."

Achieved Interim Targets:

The company succeeded in exceeding its interim targets for the 2011-2015 period: energy efficiency improved by 18 percent, water consumption by 23 percent, waste volume by 17 percent, occupational safety by 33 percent, and sales by 11 percent. Overall, Henkel improved the relationship between value created and environmental footprint by 38 percent.
