Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri converted 50% of its 2021 electricity consumption to renewable energy sources and obtained the I-REC, International Green Energy Certificate.
Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri, a subsidiary of Toyo Ink Group based in Japan and one of the world's largest ink manufacturers, joined in 2021 the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative as a signatory to the UN Global Compact (UNGC), in order to make our world more livable and serve the global effort. The company published its annual progress report containing results in line with UN Global Compact principles for the first time in March on the UNGC platform.
As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, reducing carbon emissions and providing solutions to climate change hold an important place among Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri's sustainability targets.
In the progress report published for the first time on the UNGC website, Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri openly presented its approaches and actions in this direction to its stakeholders. Furthermore, in 2021 the company participated in the UN Global Compact Climate Action Acceleration Project, aiming to increase climate action contributions and achieve large-scale emission reductions.
Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri, which incorporated work on "Renewable Energy Use" into its business plans in recent months, has set its carbon reduction target at 42% in accordance with the "Science-Based Target Setting Guide" prepared with 2020 as the baseline year according to the scenario of a 1.5°C increase in global temperature by 2030.
As a result of all these activities, the company converted 50% of its 2021 electricity consumption to renewable energy sources, obtained the I-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate documenting that electricity is produced from renewable energy sources), International Green Energy Certificate, and reduced its total carbon emissions in 2021 by 32%.
Toyo Matbaa Mürekkepleri, which also holds the Zero Waste Certificate and conducts its activities accordingly, obtained savings of 68 trees from 4,004 kg waste paper and 50 barrels of oil from 3,061 kg waste plastic, thereby contributing to recycling and the environment.
