TRY 1 Incentive Period Begins for Every Package Returned Through the DRS System

The Deposit-Based Packaging (DOA) system, implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, is entering a new phase across Turkey as of 1 July 2026. Under the system, citizens who return DOA-branded plastic, glass and aluminium beverage packages will receive an incentive payment of TRY 1 per package.

The scheme, operated by the Turkish Environment Agency (TÜÇА), aims to make recycling a natural part of everyday life and return packaging waste to the economy.

A new era in recycling
The system, which began a pilot application in Sakarya and was subsequently expanded under a "7 Regions 7 Provinces" model, will be rolled out nationwide as of 1 July 2026. The incentive payment, which stood at TRY 0.25 in the previous phase, has been increased to TRY 1 in the new period.

Under the DOA system, citizens will be able to receive payment for packages they deliver to collection points or Deposit Return Machines (DRM) directly in their digital wallets. Accumulated amounts can be transferred to bank accounts, withdrawn from ATMs or used for shopping.

Strong contribution to economy and environment
Authorities state that the system aims to recover approximately 25 billion packages for recycling annually and contribute approximately TRY 30 billion per year to the economy.

The system also aims to provide Turkey with a digital and measurable recycling infrastructure as part of the Zero Waste Movement, in line with the country's environmental policies.

Minister Kurum: "We are launching a mobilization in waste management"
Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum made the following remarks regarding the DOA system:

"We are implementing a next-generation recycling system that places citizens at the centre of the process and will set an example globally with its technology. As of 1 July, citizens will earn TRY 1 for each DOA-branded package they return. Our aim is to make recycling a natural part of everyday life and prevent millions of packages from entering the environment."

Digital and user-friendly recycling model
The DOA system will operate through an extensive collection network covering supermarkets, grocery stores, kiosks and HORECA establishments. Businesses will deliver collected packages to licensed field operators.

Citizens will be able to track the entire process through a mobile application and manage incentive payments via digital wallet.
