Cargill Turkey Receives Low Carbon Champion Award Cargill Turkey received the 'Low Carbon Champion' award at the 7th Istanbul Carbon E-Summit for its vegetable-based transformer oil. The E-Summit, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Istanbul Technical University and the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D), had the theme 'Green Recovery for Climate-Resilient Turkey: The Role of Waste and Energy Management'. Within the scope of the E-Summit, Low Carbon Champion Awards were presented to products and programs supporting a carbon footprint-conscious economy. The summit brought together senior government officials, academics and participants from the private sector. FR3®, the first and only domestic vegetable-based transformer oil produced by Cargill Turkey, won the grand prize in the Sustainable Product Category. Manufactured from 98 percent renewable vegetable oils, FR3® stands out as an environmentally friendly alternative compared to petroleum-based mineral oils commonly used in transformer production. Commenting on the award, Murat Tarakçıoğlu, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Cargill Food Middle East, Turkey and Africa, stated: "We are committed to reducing our absolute operational emissions on a global scale by 10 percent by 2025. This award we have received means the recognition of the steps we have taken to realize our climate commitment. We will continue our investments in Turkey and expand our portfolio by developing plant-based alternatives to petroleum-derived intermediate products used in many areas such as polyurethane foam, paints and coatings, construction and asphalt."

FR3® transformer oil has 98 percent lower carbon footprint

FR3® transformer oil, which has 98 percent lower carbon footprint, is a product of Cargill's strategy to develop plant-based solutions against outdated technology used in the energy sector. FR3® transformer oil is used in transformers for insulation and cooling purposes. Petroleum-based oil, which has been widely used in transformers for many years, is known to be easily flammable and potentially harmful to the environment. FR3® transformer oil, which has 98 percent lower carbon footprint compared to petroleum-based oils, represents an important example for a sustainable future. At the same time, with its flash point of 360°C, which is more than twice that of mineral oils, it eliminates fire risk. The performance and reliability of FR3® transformer oil has been tested and approved through use in more than 2.5 million transformers worldwide over more than 30 years. Additionally, because it is obtained from renewable plants, it readily biodegrades in nature. Offering higher performance compared to mineral oil, it increases the service life and capacity of transformers. When the oil in transformers used in densely populated cities is replaced with vegetable oil, the transformer is able to meet higher electricity consumption. Tarakçıoğlu noted: "Turkey ranks among the world's largest transformer manufacturers. For this reason, the domestic production of a critical component for transformers here supports transformer manufacturers in competing more strongly abroad. On the other hand, the climate crisis is increasing interest in green solutions. Our plant-based transformer oil demonstrates that we can pioneer a new era in which sustainable and low-carbon products obtained from renewable sources are utilized."
