Brisa Named Water Leader for Second Time
Brisa has been named Turkey's Climate Change Leader for the fifth time and Water Leader for the second time in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) 2020, an international environmental reporting platform. The company was among three firms that are both Climate and Water Leaders in Turkey. It also maintained last year's success as a global leader in Supplier Relations Rating.
Placing sustainability at the center of its operations, Brisa pursues its climate change mitigation program based on the vision of "Brisa For All" rooted in integrity and service to humanity, establishing environment-focused, social and governance systems.
Brisa, a Sabancı Holding affiliate and Turkey's tire market leader under the Bridgestone and Lassa brands, has been recognized as a leading institution by the international environmental reporting platform CDP. Brisa joined the most successful group of companies in Turkey and received an "A-" rating under the CDP Climate Change and Water Program, and an "A" rating in the Supplier Relations category.
Thus, in 2020, Brisa was recognized for its efforts to reduce the impact of climate change and protect natural resources, qualifying it for Turkey's Climate Change and Water Leadership, a distinction held by only three companies from Turkey. The company once again demonstrated its success as a Global Leader in Supplier Relations Rating.
Evaluating Brisa's success, Brisa CEO Haluk Kürkçü said, "The world learned the hard way during the COVID-19 global pandemic that taking responsibility, whether as individuals or institutions, for future generations is not an option but a necessity. As Brisa, we continued our operations with this awareness even before the pandemic. We regard sustainability as an integral part of our corporate culture and therefore all our activities. Every year, we ensure the development of our sustainability performance through action plans based on concrete targets. We achieve this by utilizing our research and development and technology, through systems aimed at reducing carbon emissions and waste, and at efficient use of energy and water," he said. Expressing great satisfaction that Brisa's efforts have been recognized with appreciation, Kürkçü continued: "This fifth success we have achieved as Brisa in the field of sustainability, which is shown as a strategic priority by our company's partners Bridgestone Corporation and Sabancı Holding, and the global leadership we have brought to our country, give us pride and motivation for the coming years. With a sincere approach, we are part of the solution and will continue to invest in a sustainable future." Brisa is known for its pioneering work in sustainability as a company that obtained Turkey's first and Europe's second ISO 14001 certification in the 1990s. Over the past 15 years, pursuing a consistent climate change mitigation program through concrete projects and establishing environment-focused, social and governance systems, Brisa has been reporting carbon emissions and water to CDP since 2011. The company has reduced emissions per ton by 31 percent in the last 15 years, water consumption by 53 percent in the last 10 years, and energy consumption by 23.4 percent. With all these efforts, Brisa has been continuously included in the Borsa Istanbul Sustainability Index from 2015 to October 2020. The tire leader was previously named among CDP Turkey Climate Leaders four times, the first being in 2015. In 2017, it became the first company in Turkey and Europe to earn the ISO 14046 Water Footprint Standard.Advertisement
