Bayer Gebze Plant Receives "Green Point Industry Award"

The Environment Protection and Packaging Waste Evaluation Foundation (ÇEVKO) held the Green Dot Industry Awards ceremony for the fifth time this year to publicize its environmental work. At the awards ceremony, Bayer Gebze Plant was recognized with the Green Dot Industry Award in the large-scale enterprise category for Waste Management Systems and Applications with its Zero Waste project.   Esra Güvenç, Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability Manager at Gebze Plant, commented on the Zero Waste project: "Acting with ecosystem-sensitive awareness and consciousness at every stage of our operations is among our most important principles. To implement Bayer's sustainability strategy, our primary objective as Gebze Plant is to conduct our agricultural and environmental health pharmaceuticals production and storage activities while reducing our ecological footprint, wastewater, waste air, hazardous and non-hazardous waste quantities through educational and implementation projects, ensuring our operations do not harm the environment or human health. In this way, we aim to leave a healthy and clean environment for future generations."

99.14% of facility waste is being recycled

Bayer Gebze Plant separates and collects all waste materials under its waste management system and classifies them. In 2019, the facility recycled 99.14% of waste; the plant manages all waste with hazardous and non-hazardous waste codes from quality control laboratory, production, maintenance and storage activities and aims to manage all waste through 100% recycling methods according to the waste management plan approved by the Ministry in the upcoming process. Bayer, which aims to contribute to sustainable development in the world and in Turkey, focuses on increasing access to healthcare and food for more people, producing solutions to the problems brought by climate change, and protecting the environment while conducting its operations. Maintaining its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, Bayer will implement energy efficiency measures at its facilities to reach this target. On the other hand, the company aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain by cooperating with its suppliers and customers.
