Monthly 1,200 Tons of Solid Waste Converted into Electricity

Monthly 1,200 tons of solid waste in Karakoçan district of Elazığ is converted into electricity. The solid waste transfer center established in 2020 in Hamzalı village with support from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change by Karakoçan Municipality receives 40 tons of waste collected daily by the municipality's garbage collection vehicles. The waste loaded into solid waste transfer vehicles is sent to the Bingöl Landfill Gas to Energy Generation Facility. In this way, the municipality prevents environmental pollution and ensures that 1,200 tons of waste per month is converted into electrical energy. Mayor Ayhan Akbaba stated that the solid waste transfer center has eliminated the district's waste problem of many years.

Expressing that they will continue their work without interruption for a cleaner and more livable Karakoçan, Akbaba said:

"We are carrying out our investments to be able to hand over our district to our children in a clean manner in future centuries. Our district is currently one of the first municipal administrations in the region to conduct waste transfer, and we are proud of this. We no longer have any uncontrolled dumping areas. We covered and afforested them in accordance with regulations." Akbaba noted that the area previously used as a waste disposal site will be remembered not for waste, but for the recreational area they will create. Source
