TRY 1 Billion Investment in Wastewater and Drinking Water Projects

Record Investment with EU IPA Funding

The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, which aims to make significant economic contributions through recycling via its Zero Waste project, continues its investments across Turkey in wastewater, drinking water, solid waste regular landfill facilities and equipment procurement as well as technical support projects. In investments coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's European Union Investments Department, over TRY 1 billion was invested in 2017 within the scope of wastewater, drinking water, solid waste regular landfill facilities, equipment procurement and technical support projects. While TRY 855 million of these investments was noted to be EU grants, the total grant amount utilized under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) program, which began in 2007, reached TRY 2.8 billion, and the total investment amount reached TRY 3.3 billion.

Application to European Commission for 29 Separate Projects

Among the projects coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's EU Investments Department, the total investment amount of only wastewater infrastructure projects implemented in 2017 reached approximately TRY 893 million. In drinking water infrastructure projects, the total investment amount reached TRY 218 million, while the investment amount for solid waste regular landfill facilities completed and put into service in 2017 reached TRY 153 million. Additionally, the Ministry completed equipment procurement work totaling approximately TRY 70 million in 2017 and delivered it to 22 different municipalities. The EU Investments Department, which is simultaneously pursuing new-period project preparations at full pace, submitted an application to the European Commission for 29 new projects with a total budget of approximately TRY 2.5 billion.
