Alarko Holding's Ortaköy Headquarters to Become Carbon Neutral

Alarko Holding, marking its 70th anniversary, has advanced its sustainability approach further by adding a new exemplary practice at both national and international levels. By offsetting the direct and indirect carbon footprint of its headquarters in Ortaköy, one of Istanbul's iconic structures, through the purchase of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) and wind energy-based Gold Carbon Credits, Alarko Holding has strengthened its planet-focused commitments.

The Alarko Group of Companies, celebrating its 70th year of establishment this year, is simultaneously executing numerous different projects with group companies to reach its net-zero emissions target by 2050. Prioritizing energy and resource efficiency across all facilities and renewable energy use, Alarko has added another step in its transition toward a low-carbon economy. Going forward, the Holding aims to offset the carbon footprint of its headquarters annually through Gold Carbon and Green Energy – IREC certification based on renewable energy.

Alarko Holding implements all new investments with a sustainability focus as a strong expression of environmental and social responsibility. Taking decisive steps to transform its existing operational areas along the dimensions of economy, people, technology, and planet, the Holding supports the low-carbon economy through innovative technologies that harmonize with nature, R&D investments, and circular business models. Recently becoming the first holding in Turkey to publish a responsible communications policy, and pledging to consider environmental and social impacts in brand communications processes, Alarko plans all its steps in this direction with the goal of making effective contributions to UN Global Compact principles, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs).

Aiming to become one of the world's leading investors

Alarko entered the agricultural sector in 2023 to contribute to healthy and reliable food supply, utilizing the sustainable power of geothermal energy in its modern greenhouses. The geothermal water used is returned to underground reserves through re-injection methods without contacting the surface, adhering to the principle of protecting the natural cycle. Products produced with state-of-the-art smart agriculture applications that are pesticide-free are sold in both domestic and foreign markets.

With the aim of achieving a 360-degree presence in agriculture, the Alarko Agriculture Group's hybrid micro-granule fertilizer factory in Çankırı, Turkey's first and Europe's largest, uses 65 percent less energy and 70 percent less water, while a solar energy system with 1,200 kWp capacity meets 35 percent of energy consumption.

Alarko provides technology transfer to the country in energy storage

The Alarko Energy Group aims to make maximum contributions to the transition to a low-carbon economy by investing in renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. It targets increasing its renewable energy capacity 3.5 times over the next five years, bringing its current 140 MW installed capacity to a total of 640 MW.

This year, Alarko established a partnership with Gotion Group, one of the world's leading technology and battery manufacturers, to set up energy storage systems and lithium-ion battery production lines in Turkey. This investment by Alarko encompasses technology transfer, the establishment of an R&D center in Turkey, and export dimensions.

Alarko Carrier inspires the sector through its implemented practices

The Alarko Industrial and Trade Group adopts sustainability as a fundamental strategy in its production processes. The solar energy system located on the roof of the Alarko Carrier Eskişehir Factory aims to generate 500,000 kWh of electricity annually. A closed-loop water recycling system installed in the boiler production line of the facility minimizes wastewater.

The Alarko Industrial and Trade Group, by incorporating Alarko-branded photovoltaic panels into its product range in the last quarter of 2023, makes a significant contribution to combating climate change.

Fethiye Hillside Beach Club assumes a pioneering role in sustainable tourism

With advanced sustainability practices, Hillside Beach Club, which holds the Haute Grandeur award for "Best Eco-Friendly Resort" category in Europe, plants a tree seed for each new guest. Since 2003, the facility has brought more than 305,000 tree seeds together with the earth and holds ISO 50001 Energy Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certifications. Hillside, which verifies greenhouse gas emissions according to the ISO 14064 standard, supports green energy use with I-REC certification. The facility has also earned the "Travelife Gold" certificate granted to hotels that minimize water use and manage its resources efficiently, and operates under a zero-waste policy.

Hillside Beach Club also creates a terrestrial and marine biodiversity inventory to identify flora and fauna in its surroundings. By paying attention to supporting local products and suppliers and combining cultural events with tourism, Hillside sets an example in the tourism sector with its service philosophy that supports social and ecological sustainability.
