Akkim Kimya: Environmental Impact Takes Shape in the Laboratory

Efforts to reduce environmental impact are shaped during the product development phase. Akkim Kimya focuses on developing sustainable products and processes through R&D work conducted with renewable raw materials, environmentally friendly formulations and a life cycle approach.

When environmental sustainability is mentioned, topics such as production processes, energy consumption or waste management often come to the fore. However, many factors that determine a product's environmental performance are shaped while the product is still in the development phase. Veysi Küçük, General Manager of Akkim Kimya, who made assessments on the occasion of World Environment Day, drew attention to the role of R&D in sustainability efforts.

General Manager Veysi Küçük, noting that the environmental performance of products is shaped during the development phase, stated that R&D plays a critical role in sustainable product and process development efforts. Küçük said, "It is not possible to evaluate a product's environmental performance solely by the results achieved. Therefore, in our R&D work, we prioritize renewable raw materials, environmentally friendly formulations, recycling-focused applications and life cycle approach. We are shaping our efforts towards sustainable product and process development in line with this understanding."

Supported by R&D and innovation efforts
Akkim Kimya continues to support its sustainability approach with R&D and innovation work. The company is carrying out its activities with 61 active projects and a team of 50 experts, while investing a total of USD 10.6 million in R&D and innovation activities over the past three years.

Sustainable product development, efficient production processes and circular economy-focused work are among the main topics of the company's R&D activities.

Resource efficiency and circular economy focus
Akkim Kimya supports its environmental sustainability efforts with resource efficiency and circular economy approaches. The company aims to recover 128,000 tonnes of water annually and reuse 33,000 tonnes of salt through recovery at its epoxy facilities by 2030.

Akkim Kimya, which conducts its work on climate and resource management with a data-driven approach, continues to monitor and improve its environmental performance in line with international standards.
