Akbank Sanat Hosts ‘Without a Trace’ Sustainable Design Talks

The "Sustainable Design Conversations" series, which addresses the concept of sustainability through different design disciplines, continues to meet art enthusiasts at Akbank Sanat until May 2025. Prepared with a broad perspective spanning from architecture to materials and product design, from food to machinery, this series opens discussion on how sustainability is implemented in different fields.

Akbank Sanat's "Sustainable Design Conversations: Leaving No Trace," realized through an interdisciplinary approach, focuses on the question "How much is a waste-free life possible?" The program, which opens sustainability approaches in different design fields to discussion, aims to examine today's applications while discovering future possibilities through key topics such as repurposing, transformation and repair.

The series brings together participants from various disciplines ranging from architecture to gastronomy, design to food production. Topics spanning from rethinking spaces to production with soil and waste, from repair-oriented designs to sustainable food projects, offer participants a multi-faceted learning and discovery process.

The conversation series, which started in October and is moderated by architect and academic Nur Gayretli, features guests including Istanbul-based SO? Architecture and Thought, advanced transformation-focused fashion brand Alt Üst, collective production network Onaranlar Kulübü, design studio Studio Blai, sustainability consultant Lale Çıkaroğlu Acar and social enterprise KÖK Project.

13 February 2025|19:30 Repair as a Dialogue Tool
We will learn about the work carried out by Onaranlar Kulübü for a more sustainable world and discover alternative forms of action individually or collectively.

13 March 2025|19:30 Touching Spaces with Earth
We will examine the story of Mono Earth, which uses compressed earth technology that produces no waste during manufacturing and can return one hundred percent to nature when its useful life ends, along with different-scale works in this field.

17 April 2025|19:30 Production from Waste
We will learn about the production processes of the Studio Blai team, which is part of the global Precious Plastic movement and transforms collected plastic waste into coating materials.

8 May 2025|19:30 Sustainable Food Design
Food design today holds great importance in minimizing environmental impacts and using resources more efficiently. In our conversation, we will discuss important topics such as the future of sustainable food, environmentally friendly packaging and sustainability in events.
