High-Tech Automation System: Smart Factory Technological transformation is advancing rapidly worldwide and has accelerated further with the pandemic, affecting industry as well. The ability to resolve many challenging processes that have persisted for years and sought solutions through Industry 4.0 quickly and easily has made this transformation inevitable for companies. As established traditional production methods give way to high-tech innovative systems, this change directly affects productivity and production capacity. Özgün Yabalak, Chief Executive Officer of ZGN Otonom ve Robotik, a domestic venture providing solutions in this field to global and national companies with its developed autonomous systems, stated: "Smart factories are facilities equipped with technological automation systems that enable real-time monitoring of critical issues directly affecting efficiency, energy, capacity, and other costs and values on known and conventionally accepted production and manufacturing systems, and allow remote intervention when necessary. Today, the high pace of technological development directly impacts all factories engaged in production and manufacturing. As a widely recognized reality, production capacities and the number of factories are increasing rapidly. Continuously rising raw material costs, increasing competition proportional to expanding alternatives in sectors, and the increasingly valuable competitive advantage in unit product costs are forcing factories toward intelligent and valuable production. Monitoring production, raw materials, energy, quality and capacity from multiple perspectives, keeping costs under control, identifying savings opportunities, and being able to evaluate them quickly are among the most important advantages that smart factories provide. Through real-time production monitoring, faulty conditions, bottlenecks, quality losses and similar issues can be identified precisely."

Turkish Industry Infrastructure Ready for Smart Factories

Noting that Turkish industry today should not remain indifferent to such smart systems, Özgün Yabalak stated: "Increasing domestic and international demand and needs directly impact our country's industry. To respond quickly and adequately to demands, for production to be carried out at required quality and appropriate cost, the smart factory concept must be on the agenda of Turkish industry without exception across all sectors. Factories in Turkey possess highly automated production infrastructure in many critical sectors. Production can be carried out with machine power rather than human power, at standard quality and high capacities. Turkish industry, directly affected by exchange rates and struggling to survive under the pressure of imports in raw materials and spare parts items, should prioritize smart factory transformations to enable production at the right time, in the right quantity, with minimum losses. With its existing infrastructural capacity, our industry is in a position to begin the smart factory transformation and rapidly restructure its production systems and strategies within this scope. What needs to be done is proper planning in the short term and taking steps in the correct sequence."
