Next-Generation Horizontal Wet Grinding Mills
In the paints and coatings sector and across all chemical industries, alongside increasing demand for high product quality, the need for efficiency against rising costs brings with it a requirement for better crushing performance in products requiring solid-liquid dispersion.
The simplest example is found in paint production: on one hand, stronger colors are desired, while on the other hand there is a need to minimize pigment consumption, shorten process time, and reduce the unit energy consumed in production. The way to achieve all of this is through wet grinding operations being as powerful and efficient as possible during the production process.
As Yokeş® Makina, which has provided solutions in this area to the sector for a very long time, we continue to deliver top-level wet grinding solutions through research and innovation work carried out both in collaboration with our stakeholders and within our own organization. We respond to the demands and requirements of the day by following technological developments in our sector, applying them to our machine designs, and introducing innovations.
The latest result of these efforts is presented in our horizontal wet grinding machines as the new generation Powermill-Convecta® and Powermill-Performa® series horizontal wet grinding mills, which we designate as 4th generation.
High-Flow Conventional Bead Mill:
Powermill-Convecta®
Powermill-Convecta® is the latest and advanced model of the Conventional Horizontal Type Bead Mill / Wet Grinding machines that Yokeş® Makina has been manufacturing for over 25 years. It is categorized as a "High-Flow Bead Mill." Thanks to the robust structure of the agitator disks and the specially designed separation system, very high flow and grinding rates can be easily achieved. The motion required for wet grinding is transmitted to the crushing beads via agitator disks mounted on the machine's main shaft and can be easily removed and installed. The material to be ground is fed into the machine via a separate pump.
The machine's efficiency depends on the energy supplied to the grinding chamber and how this energy behaves in the wet grinding process. Powermill-Convecta® has very high efficiency with appropriate grinding chamber geometry and parameters.
Due to the ideal diameter/length ratio of the grinding chamber and the special design of the agitator disks, the available energy is used most effectively, concentration of crushing beads in certain areas within the chamber is prevented, the effective cooling system of the grinding chamber allows for trouble-free operation, and the shape, material, and number of agitator disks can easily be adapted to even the most demanding wet grinding conditions.
General Features - Innovations
Powermill-Convecta® Bead Mills have a very robust helical tank cooling system in their grinding chambers. This cooling system is designed to provide maximum heat transfer from within the grinding chamber to the cooling water. As a result, the product heating problem that arises during the wet grinding process has been completely eliminated.
A specially designed cartridge-type, double-acting mechanical seal for Yokeş® provides maximum shaft sealing, and seal replacement can be performed very quickly and easily.
The mechanical seal cooling/washing system is also separately water-cooled. The seal inner barrier fluid pressure can be adjusted relative to product pressure. The main shaft is stepless speed controlled via frequency converter. This allows operation at desired speeds to achieve the most efficient results during the process.
A Yokeş® manufactured 1¼ inch inlet/outlet, gear-type product feed pump with stepless speed/flow control via frequency converter is used.
Depending on the product type, two separation systems are offered for product discharge-bead separation:
1) Tungsten Carbide, Rotating/Fixed GAP Separator System: The GAP spacing can be adjusted according to bead diameter.
2) Screen Separator System: Bead-product separation on the machine's product discharge side is provided by the "Yokeş® - WDG System Cylindrical High-Permeability Screen." Through an advanced PLC control system, all machine controls, monitoring of process parameters, and adjustment of machine limit values can be easily performed by the machine operator.
For detailed machine cleaning, there is a ball-bearing slide system that allows easy opening and closing of the tank. All materials used in the machine are selected to provide maximum wear resistance and maximum component life in accordance with maximum quality requirements. Depending on the type of product to be ground, specific steel materials, ceramic derivatives, sintered carbide materials, and high-quality stainless steel materials are used.
High-Efficiency Bead Mill:
Powermill-Performa®
Powermill-Performa® is a new generation machine designed to achieve higher capacity, faster wet grinding, and finer particle size values in shorter times compared to standard horizontal wet grinding machines. Thanks to the possibility of using very small grinding/crushing beads, very high grinding rates can be achieved, and due to the small amount of beads used during the process, operation is possible with lower energy consumption.
General Features - Innovations
They can operate with circulation systems or tank-to-tank pass systems. The energy and motion required for high-capacity wet grinding is transmitted to the crushing beads via a specially designed Rotor-Pin System. Through special grinding chamber design and the rotor-pin system, the Powermill-Performa® series machines can achieve the narrowest possible particle size distribution in shorter times.
The special design of the grinding chamber and rotor-pin system allows the beads within the chamber to move counter to the product flow direction, enabling the discharge screen to self-clean and creating the most uniform product flow possible, thus increasing wet grinding efficiency.
Crushing bead movement and collisions within the grinding chamber are much faster compared to a conventional horizontal bead mill. When this movement is combined with product flow in the opposite direction of the bead circulation, product throughput rates and machine performance increase significantly. Additionally, bead and product movement completely independent of turbulence within the grinding chamber plays an important role in extending the service life of crushing and grinding beads.
All materials used in this machine are also selected to provide maximum wear resistance and maximum component life in accordance with maximum quality requirements. Depending on the type of product to be ground, specific steel materials, ceramic derivatives, sintered carbide materials, and high-quality stainless steel materials are used.
Bead-product separation on the machine's product discharge side is provided by the "Yokeş® - WDG System Cylindrical High-Permeability Screen." For maximum flow, the screen surface is designed to be as large as possible within machine limits. The special structure of the rotor disk and cover continuously cleans the screen surface while the machine operates. When screen clogging occurs, internal screen cleaning can be performed from the front cover without opening the machine.
Through the high-permeability screen system, crushing and grinding beads of all sizes can be used in the wet grinding process (min. 0.1 mm), and ultra-fine particle size values desired in the product can be easily achieved. Powermill-Performa® grinding chambers have a very robust helical tank cooling system. This cooling system is designed to provide maximum heat transfer from within the grinding chamber to the cooling water. As a result, the product heating problem that arises during high-efficiency wet grinding process has been completely eliminated.
Through an advanced PLC control system, all machine controls, monitoring of process parameters, and adjustment of machine limit values can be easily performed by the machine operator. The main shaft has stepless speed control. This allows operation at desired speeds to achieve the most efficient results during the process. After grinding is complete, low-speed washing can be performed to wash the machine's internal chamber.
Advantages of the Powermill-Performa® Series
Due to its special design, with small grinding chamber volume and low bead quantity, wet grinding results superior to those achieved by conventional Bead Mills with large volumes and large quantities of beads can be obtained in shorter times.
Cleaning, maintenance, product change, bead change, disk change, etc. can be performed very easily due to the small process volume. Machine downtime is significantly reduced. The amount of cleaning agents used is minimal. A specially designed cartridge-type, double-acting mechanical seal for Yokeş® provides maximum shaft sealing, and seal replacement can be performed very quickly and easily. The mechanical seal cooling/washing system is also separately water-cooled.
The seal inner barrier fluid pressure can be adjusted relative to product pressure. All of these ensure that the mechanical seal can be used trouble-free for an extended period.
Heat-sensitive special products can be easily controlled during wet grinding thanks to the small process volume and effective cooling system. Due to the small compact design of the Powermill-Performa® Series, production costs and maintenance expenses are quite low.
