Valmet to Modernize Modern Karton's PM3

Valmet has initiated a comprehensive revision and upgrade of Modern Karton PM3, which includes an extensive automation package. Upon completion of the upgrade, the machine will produce high-quality coated containerboard.

Valmet will supply Modern Karton's facility in Tekirdağ with a comprehensive paper machine revision and an extensive automation system package. Under the project scope, PM3 (Paper Machine 3), which currently produces recycled containerboard, will be rebuilt and reconfigured to produce high-quality coated containerboard. The rebuilt paper machine is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2022. Modern Karton Board Chairman Hamdullah Eren stated, "We selected Valmet as our strategic partner to support our growth strategy. Project details

Valmet's revision of PM3 will include modifications to the existing pulp preparation line and paper machine. The revision will entail changes to the paper broke collection system, process water system and pulp feeding system. The existing paper machine will be rebuilt with three new OptiFlo Foudrinier pulp chests along with modifications to the forming section, press section, drying section and coating section. The delivery will also include a completely new coating section comprising OptiCoat Layer blade coater, OptiCoat Jet blade coater, coating color preparation system, feed systems for both coating stations, OptiCalender Soft calender and OptiReel Linear centrally driven buffer system. During the implementation process, existing air systems will be renewed with a new open air tank, heat recovery system and OptiDry Coat air drying units. The delivery includes an automation package encompassing machine control, quality management, condition monitoring systems and retention measurement. In addition to on-site support, services such as commissioning of the rebuilt machine and further optimization will be provided with remote support from Valmet Performance Centre. The 5,600 mm wide PM3 containerboard machine, with a design speed of 1,300 m/min, will be capable of producing recycled white testliner, coated white testliner, recycled corrugating medium and other testliner grades in the 105-225 g/m² range.
