Masdaf Leads the Way in Sustainability
Pump sector brand Masdaf continues advancing with steady steps on the sustainability journey with the motto "Masdaf is good for the world" and keeps building a liveable future.
Focusing on integrating sustainability into all business processes from R&D to production of environmentally friendly water technologies that protect global resources, Masdaf covered significant ground on its sustainability journey in 2021 while continuing to set forward-looking targets.
"We aim to scale digital transformation across the company and make it sustainable"
Denizhan Polatoğlu, Board Member of Masdaf, stated that they view sustainability as a long-term value creation process and emphasized that they continue to lead the sector by addressing this process comprehensively. "The Paris Agreement aims to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees in the fight against climate crisis. To achieve this goal, carbon emissions in all sectors must be halved by 2030 and brought to net zero by 2050," said Denizhan Polatoğlu, continuing as follows: "In the fight against climate change, technologies that use energy and water resources efficiently, provide greenhouse gas control—that is, have near-zero carbon footprint—are now vital. In this context, at Masdaf we have increased our investments in digitalization and smart technologies by 50 percent over the past two years. In all our processes, we reduce operational costs by ensuring resource optimization. We aim to scale and sustain digital transformation across the company. We are developing our production infrastructure in line with Industry 4.0 thinking, which represents the transformation of industry. With all these efforts and investments, we target reducing carbon emissions from our operations by 40 percent by 2030 compared to 2022, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In this context, in the coming period we also plan to transition to "ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System" to further reduce the environmental impact of our processes. Our quality department has started work on this matter, and we provide the necessary support," he said.Holistic and environmentally conscious approach
"At Masdaf, for nearly half a century we have been developing and manufacturing environmentally friendly and efficient pump and hydrofore technologies that give life to water," said Denizhan Polatoğlu, stating that behind Masdaf's current success lies a holistic and environmentally conscious approach they have adopted for a more liveable world. In this context, Polatoğlu emphasized that they operate with the mission to minimize environmental impact in all processes from production to logistics of environmentally friendly water technologies that use energy and water resources intelligently and efficiently, and provided information about the sustainability activities they implemented in 2021: "At our facilities with a total production area of 52,000 square meters in Düzce and Tuzla, we adopt an environmentally conscious approach. We took one of the most concrete steps of our sustainability-focused approach with our Tuzla facility. Our Tuzla facility, which became operational in the first quarter of 2021, was constructed with an environmentally friendly approach. Constructed on a 12,000 square meter area with 8,500 square meters of enclosed space and consisting of 6 floors, we made improvements to minimize environmental impacts at our facility. In this context, for water recovery, we installed a system on the roof of our building that collects rainwater, filters it, and sends it to the raw water tank. We prevent water waste by directly using the water accumulated in the tank for garden irrigation and in areas where needed.50 percent energy savings
At our Tuzla and Düzce plants, we aimed to meet the factory's energy needs with natural energy sources by using wind and solar energy. We designed our new facility to consume minimal energy and cause minimum harm to the environment. By obtaining hot water for use in the building from solar collectors installed on the roof, we achieved energy savings of up to 50 percent. With smart and advanced air-source heat pumps we use, we reduced energy consumption from the building's heating and cooling to minimum levels. We designed our offices and production area to benefit from more sunlight. Additionally, we use fixtures that consume less energy. From our Tuzla office, which is our headquarters, to our Düzce plant, we optimized our logistics operations to reduce carbon emissions from our logistics processes. We also preferred using electric vehicles in company vehicles. With the treatment systems we installed at our Tuzla and Düzce plants, we treat our waste materials to protect our environment. We also implemented our building's landscape in accordance with green building standards. By selecting plants suited to Istanbul's climate conditions, we ensured the continuity of flora. In future periods, we want to also green the roof of our building to release oxygen into the atmosphere and make a contribution to nature in this regard. In short, we adopted an environmentally conscious approach in our new office building, which is compatible with nature and focused on recycling," he concluded. Viewing sustainability as a long-term value creation process, Masdaf continues to "be good for the world" through the work it carries out.Advertisement
