Honeywell to Support ABF with Automation Technologies
Honeywell announced that American Battery Factory (ABF), a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell manufacturer, has fully integrated Honeywell's automation and process safety solutions into its new gigafactory in Tucson, Arizona.
The facility, spanning approximately 2 million square feet, is expected to become the largest LFP battery cell production gigafactory in the United States upon completion. Energy storage systems derived from ABF's battery cell manufacturing will be available for use by households, businesses and utility providers, enabling them to optimize energy consumption from the grid or their own systems.
The Arizona gigafactory will integrate Honeywell's Manufacturing Excellence Platform, Experion® Batch and Integrated Remote operations to help ABF optimize its production processes and workflow. Through Honeywell's advanced solutions, ABF will have real-time visibility and control at every stage of battery production, including mixing, coating, assembly, storage and distribution.
Honeywell's technologies will also facilitate the collection and improvement of operational data, gathering information for operators about upcoming tasks or potential delays, leading to increased productivity, reduced waste, and more energy-efficient and cost-effective battery production.
John Kem, President of American Battery Factory, stated: "By leveraging Honeywell's exceptional tools and technology, we can rapidly and effectively establish a sustainable foundation for our gigafactory network.
This partnership marks significant progress toward our goal of supplying the nation with U.S.-manufactured lithium iron phosphate batteries needed to meet national security requirements for domestically produced products, as well as federal and state government energy resilience and sustainability initiatives."
