Flottweg Decanter: When high-solids solid-liquid mixtures require separation, decanter centrifuges are the preferred solution. Every Flottweg decanter centrifuge is manufactured with experience derived from over 60 years of centrifuge design and more than 1,000 applications. Unlike press filters, decanter centrifuges operate continuously. The basic operating principle of decanters can be summarized as follows: the mixture fed through a fixed pipe to the feed zone is separated by centrifugal acceleration, the solid phase accumulates at the drum wall due to its higher density, and the helical screw conveys the solids by scraping and compressing them to the discharge point. The liquid phase exits the system under gravity. Flottweg Tricanter®: Flottweg's Tricanter® enables the separation of three phases (solid-liquid-liquid) in a single process. For over 40 years, Flottweg has manufactured the Tricanter® for three-phase separation. Three-phase separation is the simultaneous separation of two immiscible liquids of different densities and one solid phase, provided the solid phase is the heaviest phase. The key difference from the decanter is the separate discharge of two different liquid phases. The heavier density liquid is discharged under pressure, while the lighter density liquid is discharged without pressure under the influence of gravity. It can operate at processing capacities of up to 80 m³ per hour. Three-phase separation offers users various advantages: the combination of process steps eliminates the need for additional separation stages and provides significant cost savings. It can adapt at any time to changing feed conditions. Thanks to the compact design of Flottweg tricanters tailored for your process, operation and maintenance are very straightforward. In the case of combustible mixtures, explosion protection is provided in compliance with the ATEX directive and applicable standards. It can also be manufactured in accordance with hygienic design principles. All product-contact components of tricanters manufactured for the food industry have CIP capabilities (Clean In Place). Application areas: extraction of vegetable and animal oils, mineral oils, industrial wastewater, biodiesel, wheat starch. Flottweg Sedicanter®, combines the advantages of decanters and separators. It enables efficient separation of mixtures where both decanters and separators produce insufficient results. With centrifugal forces of 5,000 to 10,000 g, it offers high clarification capacity and optimal separation capability. It has both the high solids loading capacity of a decanter and the high separation efficiency of separators. It is used for soft, viscous materials that would be too fine to process effectively in a decanter and difficult to discharge. It is suitable for processing soft products such as biomass, yeast suspensions, protein suspensions and fermentation water. It is also capable of processing mixtures containing large amounts of solids. Capacity can reach 50 m³ per hour. Through Flottweg's Simp Drive® drive concept and adjustable impeller, fluctuations in solids content in the feed can be easily balanced, ensuring consistent separation results at all times. Flottweg Sorticanter® In plastic recycling, plastics can be separated quickly and efficiently using centrifugal effects. The patented Flottweg Sorticanter® provides economical recycling by separating different plastic types according to their different densities. Plastics separated by centrifuge achieve a higher dryness than all other separation processes. Air bubbles, surface effects or dust on the plastics have no effect on separation. Since most plastic types have different densities from each other, settling or floating procedures are an efficient separation method; however, centrifugal separation is much faster than these methods and produces much drier material. Before separation, raw material is shredded into particles. The shredded and pre-cleaned material is then mixed in tanks with carrier liquid, also called separation liquid. The homogenized suspension is then fed to the sorticanter via a static feed pipe. Under centrifugal force, heavier material accumulates at the drum wall. The solids accumulated here are transported and discharged by means of the helical screw. Light plastic collects on the liquid. The liquid flows along the helix and carries the light plastic particles with it. The special helix design ensures that the light phase is conveyed in the direction of solid discharge (light phase). The liquid flows out under pressure via a propeller. The Flottweg Sorticanter®, depending on feed characteristics, has capacity up to 1,000 kg per hour. Since it requires minimal labour, operating costs are reduced. Low consumption of clean water and energy also has a positive effect on operating costs. Application areas: plastic recycling processes, film separation, PET flake processing, plastic granule processing after medical applications. Flottweg Separator (Disc Stack Centrifuge) From algae harvesting to beer purification and protein extraction, if you want to separate or clarify liquids or remove ultra-fine particles, you need powerful and robust separators. With tremendous centrifugal forces exceeding 12,000 g, Flottweg separators provide high-quality separation solutions. Flottweg separators do not lose their balance even at acceleration forces exceeding 12,000 g. The product to be clarified flows from the feed pipe into the separation bowl. The distributor then slowly accelerates the material to separation speed. The disk stack in the bowl divides the product flow into many thin layers, creating a large surface area. Within the disk stack, centrifugal force causes solids to separate from the liquid and settle against the drum walls. The separated solid particles are periodically removed at maximum speed by means of a hydraulic system at the bottom of the drum. The clarified liquid is directed from the disk stack to the suction of a central pump and discharged under pressure. Compact, sturdy designs ensure trouble-free operation and ease of maintenance. The disk stack and distributor provide optimal flow conditions in the bowl. This ensures maximum separation efficiency. The number of wear parts and seals is minimized, reducing downtime and operating costs. Application areas: fruit juice production, food industry, oil and biodiesel processing.
