Ergonomics on the Go With JumboFlex Picker, Schmalz has developed a self-contained solution for mobile order picking that handles packages weighing up to 40 kilograms. Users need only an industrial vehicle to bring ergonomics to their desired work area, including the pallet. Schmalz introduced the new solution to the market as of mid-2021. Thanks to J. Schmalz GmbH's new JumboFlex Picker, when products cannot reach the vacuum-powered material handler, the handler comes to them. The system makes it possible to lift and transport packages, parts and sacks weighing up to 40 kilograms. The system consists of various components: the main body houses a battery, vacuum generator and necessary control technology. The vehicle features a forklift carriage compatible with GMA pallets in two different lengths, which Schmalz also offers in its European version, for handling one or two pallets simultaneously. A carrying column is mounted on either the left or right side of the main body. The column height is electrically adjustable, allowing operators to increase the lifting height of the vacuum handler on one hand while reducing height for transporting the system to another area on the other. An ergonomic vacuum-powered material handler is suspended from a mobile articulated jib crane. To transport the JumboFlex Picker to its work location, users simply use the industrial forklifts they already operate for moving orders. The design of the mobile articulated jib crane with additional arm is patented. Additionally, the JumboFlex Picker can be used with vehicles featuring two carriage lengths and is capable of lifting two pallets.

Fast and Easy Through Automated Process

Operation is intuitive and reliable, as is a Schmalz tradition: when the mobile JumboFlex Picker arrives on site, the user only needs to activate the vacuum material handler using the SRC radio remote control. Four support legs on the base module automatically extend to stabilize the mobile vacuum material handling system. Subsequently, as soon as the extension arm moves to the parking position, the supports automatically retract. The JumboFlex closes at the same time. These automated systems save time while accelerating material handling processes. In working mode, the user can view all relevant information, battery status and the position of the material handling jib on the touchscreen. Control is managed through a monitor. Soft-touch buttons give users access to the most important functions even while wearing gloves. Thanks to the easily articulated jib design of the mobile articulated crane, users can access all parts within a diameter of 1,600 millimeters. With the electrically powered carrying column, the vacuum material handler's approximately 1,300-millimeter lifting range can be quickly and easily adapted to the required work area. With a standard gripper, a maximum holding height of up to 1,800 millimeters can be achieved. The JumboFlex vacuum material handler used is part of Schmalz's existing product range and is delivered to workplaces with the familiar quick-change adapter. This means there is the right gripper for each part. To pass through doorways or intermediate counters, the carrying column can be lowered from the lowest working height of 2,100 millimeters or less to match the system's total height—allowing the mobile vacuum material handler, which has a width of less than one meter, to pass through any doorway.

Self-Sufficient Thanks to Battery

The JumboFlex Picker draws energy from a powerful lead-acid battery used in industrial forklifts. Its capacity is sufficient for six hours of continuous operation, meaning it often runs through an entire work day. Intermediate charging is not necessary. In multi-shift operations, simply replacing the battery with a fully charged one is sufficient; this way there are no obstacles to continuous operation. The JumboFlex Picker is demanded in locations that fixed solutions cannot reach: in block or floor storage or in in-house product distribution solutions operating on a cyclic circuit principle. Alongside left- or right-hand versions, Schmalz's mobile ergonomic solution, which can be combined with different carriages for US and EU markets, adapts to all modern logistics concepts.
