Daimler Truck to Work with Aeva on 4D LiDAR Technology
Daimler Truck and its independent subsidiary Torc Robotics have selected Aeva, an advanced 4D LiDAR technology supplier for series-production autonomous trucks.
The collaboration on LiDAR technology enabling vehicle capabilities with SAE Level 4 autonomous driving systems for the production-ready Freightliner Cascadia truck platform will commence in the first quarter of the year.
Daimler Truck AG will work with Aeva, a leader in next-generation sensors and perception systems, as the LiDAR technology supplier for its series-production commercial vehicle program featuring autonomous driving systems.
In this scope, Aeva, collaborating with Daimler Truck's independent subsidiary Torc Robotics, will supply its new Atlas automotive-class 4D LiDAR technology to enable vehicle capabilities with SAE Level 4 autonomous driving systems, starting with the Class 8 Freightliner Cascadia truck platform.
Collaboration to begin in first quarter of 2024
Daimler Truck aims to integrate LiDAR sensors directly into the production process to enable customers to purchase autonomous-driving-ready trucks directly from production facilities without requiring aftermarket sensor installation. Under this collaboration, Torc Robotics will provide virtual driver technology and supporting Mission Control services to customers on a subscription basis. The collaboration will commence in the first quarter of 2024. Aeva will begin production in 2026, while the Daimler Truck production line will start in 2027.Daimler Truck also conducted test drives
Daimler Truck and Torc Robotics have made significant progress in turning autonomous driving system-equipped trucks from concept to reality, conducting comprehensive and successful road test programs as well as initial customer test drive operations. To maximize the safety of autonomous trucks, Daimler Truck and Torc Robotics equipped the trucks with sensor suites comprising a combination of three technologies: the latest LiDAR, radar, and camera technology. These technologies enable safe, situation-adapted driving on highways, rural roads, paved surfaces and ramps, as well as at intersections controlled by traffic lights and signage where turns are required.Advertisement
