Bayer Enhances Information Management System with Shiftconnector®
Bayer announces preference for digitalized shift operations using eschbach software developer's enterprise platform Shiftconnector®.
Following a successful pilot project, the company integrated the artificial intelligence-based new module Smart Search into Shiftconnector, elevating information management to a new level. This module leverages process knowledge, some dating back years, to help shift teams make efficient decisions.
As a global organization with more than 101,000 employees in 83 countries, Bayer seeks to address fundamental challenges facing the continuously growing and aging global population. The Bayer Crop Science division recently increased efficiency in shift operations at its facility in Muttenz, Switzerland through a pilot project aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into the Shiftconnector software solution.
Bayer's innovative information management system is designed to facilitate employees' daily task execution while enabling the company to continuously improve its processes. The integration of artificial intelligence-based modules in Shiftconnector enables process-related information and datasets to be utilized more efficiently.
Previously, significant time was spent searching for information and data records physically filed in office tools. Today, Bayer benefits not only from the regular consolidation of the process environment, but also from the mapping of past problem solutions.
The new Smart Search function enables rapid searching of similar situations from the past, thereby significantly facilitating decision-making processes. Beyond time-saving advantages for teams, relevant background information allows errors to be corrected quickly and even prevented.
Bayer uses Shiftconnector as a communication and database tool in shift operations. The enterprise platform connects the workforce operating in a three-shift model, enabling employees to maintain records of knowledge accumulation, monitor processes, and share relevant background information in real time.
This ensures that information is complete and always available in a single source of truth, making information exchange between day and night shifts fast and transparent.
With this technology, when experienced employees at Bayer in Muttenz leave the company or retire, the knowledge they possessed is no longer lost.
Heskamp, Head of Field Operational Excellence at Bayer Muttenz, stated: "Information transfer in shift operations is a major challenge. Shift work means 7/24 production, 7/24 data. Smart Search, which we integrated as a new tool into Shiftconnector, helps us generate information from this data, and we can then use this information to achieve our environmental, energy and production targets. With Smart Search, shift teams have access to information in a transparent and consistent manner to meet strict regulatory compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries."
