ABB to Develop AI- and Software-Focused Automation

ABB announced that it has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Meshmind, a software services provider, to expand its research and development capabilities in artificial intelligence, Industrial IoT and machine vision. Through this acquisition, ABB will integrate engineering capabilities, artificial intelligence and software expertise to accelerate the development of innovative automation solutions within the Machine Automation division (B&R) and establish a new global R&D center. The integration of approximately 50 Meshmind employees will expand collaboration with B&R teams on a range of R&D projects, including deep learning vision systems, AI-enabled engineering tools and IoT application development, operating from Meshmind's offices in Sarajevo, Bosnia, which will serve as B&R's new global center for artificial intelligence and software development. The transaction, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2024, has not disclosed financial details.
