As industrialization increases, growing population density creates a new problem: "sound and noise." But what is "sound"? Sound is defined as physical phenomena produced by fluctuations created in the air by a vibrating source that stimulates the sense of hearing in the human ear, and propagates through longitudinal waves in the direction of vibration propagation. When these sounds are loud, irregular and complex, "noise" is created. Physically, sound is energy transfer through longitudinal pressure waves in the direction of vibration movement. The number of vibrations per second of sound waves is called "Frequency." Its unit is Hertz (Hz). The time elapsed for one vibration is called "Period." Its unit is seconds (s). The sound absorption performance of materials depending on frequencies is related to the sound absorption coefficient. When incoming sound strikes a surface, part of the sound is reflected, and the part passing through the material is transmitted. As sound energy passes through the material, it is partly absorbed by converting to heat energy due to resistance and friction within the cells. The sound absorption coefficient is the ratio of incoming sound energy converted to heat energy. Theoretically it is denoted by 'α' and its value ranges between 0-1. Materials with high α values have "sound absorbing" properties, while materials with low α values have "sound reflecting" properties. Taking all of this into account, Pluskim Polyurethane's PLUSOL SP-10 product, which has high sound absorption properties and additionally has developed fire resistance and other mechanical properties, is a completely open-cell, environmentally friendly spray polyurethane system. It will find applications in many industrial sectors, particularly in construction, as well as automotive and textile industries.   Serkan Türkyılmaz Chemist Pluskim Kimya San. Tic. A.Ş.   Test results also show that polyurethane with high sound absorption values, as frequency values increase from low to high, delivers better results compared to all other competitors.
