Turkey Second in Europe for Flexible Foam Production The European Flexible Polyurethane Foam Block Producers Association EUROPUR presented data on the European flexible polyurethane foam market to its members at a conference held in Budapest and shared a brief summary. According to EUROPUR, in 2022, approximately 1.35 million tonnes of flexible polyurethane sheet foam was produced, marking a decline of around 8.5% compared to 2021, which was a record production year. As a result of declining demand, high raw material prices and supply constraints, production declined across all European regions except Turkey, which recorded growth of just over 8%. In the European Union (plus United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway), production fell by approximately 10.5%. Turkey ranks second in flexible foam production after Poland. It is projected that Turkey could overtake Poland in flexible foam production this year. The third-largest producing region was Iberia, which for the first time produced more than the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). 2023 is expected to be an even more challenging year due to further weakening demand for flexible PU foam from major markets (upholstered furniture and bed sets). Poland, which produces the most flexible foam, is followed by Turkey, which could overtake Poland this year. Source
