Development of Sustainable Composite Materials

NASA Provides Support for Development of Sustainable Composite Materials NASA awarded USD 50 million to 14 organizations under the Hi-Rate Composite Aircraft Manufacturing (HiCAM) project to develop manufacturing processes and advanced composite materials for aircraft structures. HiCAM aims to make commercial aviation more sustainable by reducing fuel consumption and emissions for airlines while lowering the cost of composite structures manufactured in the United States and increasing production rates. HiCAM works with the Advanced Composites Consortium (ACC), a public-private partnership that enables partners to benefit from each other's expertise and increases the likelihood of the US aviation industry adopting the results, in contribution to the Sustainable Flight National Partnership. Organizations within the consortium receiving funding through these latest awards will have their NASA funding matched. Source
