Next-Generation Polyurethane Systems from Kimteks: KimRIGID® and KimCOOL® Rigid Foam Polyurethane Systems

Kimteks, Turkey's first independent polyurethane system house, is a market leader in the footwear and flexible foam sector in Turkey, a pioneer in other applications, and a rapidly growing, competitive polyurethane system house. The prohibition of HCFC-141b as a blowing agent due to the Montreal Protocol and national regulations has caused problems for many suppliers and customers in the polyurethane sector, particularly in the rigid foam polyurethane sector, which has excellent insulation coefficient values and is indispensable for thermal insulation.

HCFC-141b was a gas that brought many application conveniences and cost advantages such as very good adhesion and excellent flow in the mould. The more environmentally friendly gases used in current systems today have not shown the same performance during the transition period, or companies have been slow to update their formulations.

For this reason, in high-volume production of Continuous Panel (CP) and domestic refrigerator manufacturing – including some large commercial refrigerator production – the transition has been made to n-pentane and cyclopentane blowing gas mixed into the system during application. Therefore, polyurethane systems serving these applications do not contain blowing agents. Customers add n-pentane and cyclopentane at their own facilities to make the system functional. However, although pentane has emerged as an alternative, due to it being an explosive gas and the high investment costs of equipment required for its safe use, there are difficulties in storing and using this gas in smaller-scale companies. For this reason, in applications such as commercial refrigerators, cold room panels, discontinuous panel (DCP), boilers and thermosiphons, blowing gases are generally contained within the system, i.e. within the polyol blend, as was the case before, and more environmentally friendly gases have started to be used. With its own technology, Kimteks has created a significant advantage over its competitors through next-generation polyurethane systems. It serves both customers who add pentane gas themselves and customers who want to use a ready-to-use system containing safe and environmentally friendly blowing gas, in short, it serves all markets and applications using rigid foam systems.

KimRIGID® and KimCOOL® Product Range

Rigid foam systems are essentially systems produced for insulation purposes; they are good heat insulators. Thermal insulation is necessary for energy savings. The contribution to our national economy and environmental protection from consuming the energy resources we need from our expensive and limited sources is significant. Kimteks provides advanced and competitive raw materials and collaborative solutions to our customers, manufacturers of sandwich panels, refrigerators, geothermal pipes, cold rooms, boilers and thermosiphons in rigid foam applications. The general properties of foams obtained with KimRIGID® and KimCOOL® systems have been substantially improved compared to competing products and provide our customers with the opportunity to produce with higher efficiency and quality at lower costs. The foams produced are void-free and have an excellent surface. Visible improvements are achieved in the mechanical properties of the foam. Heat conductivity coefficient improves due to better cell structure. It allows production to begin very quickly, thus reducing waste. It has a longer lifespan, therefore there is less downtime. It allows greater production in less time. Homogeneous distribution of material contributes positively to increasing production speed. It enables our customers to achieve significant cost savings.

Discontinuous Panel (DCP) Polyurethane Systems – KimRIGID ® RD Series Products

Our DCP polyurethane systems are designed with special formulations that exhibit high functional properties, provide smooth surface and easy moulding, and offer better adhesion, fast production and operation at relatively lower temperatures compared to competitors. In accordance with our respect for future generations and our world, we use only environmentally friendly blowing agents.

Continuous Panel (CP) Polyurethane Systems – KimRIGID ® RC Series Products

Among different CP polyurethane products, however great the similarity in external appearance, we always know that many important differences can emerge. For this reason, as much as for special product types, in general product types aimed at series production, such as CP polyurethane systems, we specially arrange our formulations according to customer needs. We offer solutions such as 4 and 5-component B2 and B3 systems, PIR systems, and we try to prevent the need for multiple polyurethane systems for different product expectations.

Stone Wool-EPS Lamination Panel Polyurethane Systems - KimRIGID® RCG Series Products

Particularly in stone wool panel production, properties such as good adhesion to surfaces and non-release are indispensable, but the adhesive is required to be a fast-curing system with high mechanical properties, with characteristics parallel to the non-flammability/flame resistance properties provided by the stone wool. As Kimteks, we have developed systems that provide all these properties and impart extraordinary characteristics compared to competitors, and we have offered to our customers systems that meet all three existing production technologies in the market, namely poker, spray and coating technologies. Continuous Shutter Insulation Systems - KimRIGID® RCP Series Products

These systems are designed for use in the manufacture of shutter lamellae and window profiles on continuous production lines. These systems are low-density and provide excellent insulation with good adhesion, high mechanical properties, high impact resistance, corrosion resistance and durability.

Refrigeration Sector Polyurethane Systems – KimCOOL® RD Series Products

One of the most common applications of polyurethanes is the refrigeration sector. We solve the unmet needs of the sector with high-tech, excellent mould-flow and fast-curing systems that enable rapid production and have low lambda values, for the manufacture of all types of domestic refrigerators, deep freezers, display-type storage cabinets, water and beverage coolers, pastry cabinets, minibars, thermoses, storage containers and food transport equipment.
