Kimpur Begins Producing Polyester Polyol from Recycled PET Bottles

Kimpur has taken another important step in its production approach toward efficient resource utilization by implementing an innovative circular process. The company has commenced production of recycled-content polyester polyol at its Düzce manufacturing facility by chemically recycling post-consumer PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle waste.

Through depolymerization technology deployed in this process, a portion of conventional fossil-based raw materials can be replaced with recycled raw materials. In this way, both the environmental impact of plastic waste is reduced and more efficient resource utilization is targeted.

This newly developed polyol solution was initially designed for rigid polyurethane foam applications used in sandwich panel production. Initial trials demonstrate that this solution containing recycled content can be integrated into production processes without sacrificing performance when compared to standard systems.

Kimpur CEO Cavidan Karaca made the following statement on the matter:
"As we have previously shared, with the commissioning of Ravago reactors, our Düzce facility stands out not only for its increased production capacity but also for the technical flexibility it offers. Thanks to this robust infrastructure, we are pleased to have reached a concrete milestone in our objective of integrating post-consumer recycled PET waste—which we have been working on since our Düzce facility came into operation—into our production processes. This new polyester polyol will support efforts by both us and our customers to reduce environmental impact while contributing to more efficient resource utilization."

Kimpur targets 25% of total product sales by 2030 to comprise systems that contribute to efficient resource utilization, emissions reduction, and energy efficiency. In this direction, the aim is to increase the share of such products in the portfolio and integrate them into applications across different sectors.
