Earthquake Housing Being Built with Fiber Composite Blocks
Earthquake Housing Built With Fiber Composite Blocks
In Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, damaged in the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş, earthquake housing and village houses are being constructed with fiber composite blocks.
Composite blocks containing recycled materials such as glass, fibers and mineral powder produced by a private company allow a 400-square-meter village house to be built in 4 days. The project encompasses a kindergarten, a village house and a 3-story residential building with 6 apartments.
As a result of the ongoing project, the structural construction of the kindergarten consisting of 4 classrooms currently located in Nurdağı-1 Container Town has been completed, while construction of the village house and residential building in Alparslan Türkeş Container Town is still ongoing.
Fiber Composite Material Resistant to Fire, Wind and Earthquakes
TOKİ specialist civil engineer Fatih Taşdemir made comments to reporters on the subject. Stating that construction of earthquake housing and the kindergarten is still underway, Taşdemir said; "One of the residences is a 3+1, 130-square-meter detached village house project, the other is a multi-story apartment project consisting of 6 units." Taşdemir also conveyed that the fiber composite material, which consists of interlocking blocks, is resistant to fire, wind and earthquakes."Contains No Carcinogenic or Health-Harmful Substances"
Erkan Güngör, serving as project coordinator, also shared information and noted that the product manufactured from recycled materials is domestic. Stating that they have worked on this product for 15 years, Güngör said; "We succeeded in having this system recognized as the 4th building system in the USA and used it in many constructions. Thanks to TOKİ, we started these constructions in our country. We believe we will meet the need for earthquake-resistant housing in a very short time. With this building system we can construct any type of building up to 5 stories. For example, we can complete the frame section of a 400-square-meter villa in the short span of 4 days. Since the product is manufactured from recyclable materials, it is a green product. It contains no carcinogenic or health-harmful substances," he said.Product is 10 Times Lighter and 40 Times More Durable Than Brick
Stating that the materials in the product have recyclable properties, Güngör also conveyed that the product is solid and durable against earthquakes and wind. Güngör said; "The product is 10 times lighter than brick and 40 times more durable. While the product is strong on its own, when all parts are locked together modularly it becomes like a tunnel formwork," he stated. SourceAdvertisement
