DowAksa Launches Sustainable Ideas Competition with Carbon Fiber
DowAksa launches competition to repurpose lightweight, durable carbon fiber pultruded profiles used in wind turbines
The 'Repurpose Reimagine - Sustainable Ideas Competition for Giving New Life to Carbon Fiber Materials' aims to redirect end-of-life products back into use. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as working professionals. DowAksa has set 19 September 2024 as the final project submission deadline.
Circular economy contribution among evaluation criteria
The competition's evaluation criteria include contribution to the circular economy, creation of positive environmental value, and feasibility. Participants are expected to develop rational and implementable ideas for repurposing products available in widths of 83 mm, 105 mm and 120 mm, thickness of 5 mm, and cuttable to lengths of up to 300 meters.
The jury panel includes Prof. Dr. Nuri Ersoy (Faculty Member, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boğaziçi University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Saner Okan (Director, Composites Center, Sabancı University), Prof. Dr. Ersan Üstündağ (Faculty Member, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University), Prof. Dr. Şebnem Yalınay Çinici (Faculty Member, Department of Architecture, Istanbul Bilgi University), and Ayşe Yılmaz (Founder, Ottan Studio).
