BASF Takes First Step in Smart Verbund Project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong

BASF has begun construction of facilities for its intelligent Verbund project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China. This initiative represents a significant milestone in the development of the company's USD 10 billion investment project since its official launch in November 2019. The facilities will produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to meet the rising demands of various growth industries in the South China market and Asia. Haryono Lim, Senior Vice President of BASF, stated, "Only two years have passed since the signing of the initial Memorandum of Understanding and the formal contract for our first facilities. Thanks to substantial support from government authorities and local communities, as well as the efforts of our worldwide employees and partners, the project is proceeding steadily. We are confident that we will bring the first batch of products bearing the 'Made in Zhanjiang' label to market by the end of 2022." BASF will implement a comprehensive intelligent manufacturing concept at the Verbund site based on the latest technologies with the highest safety standards.
