California's Bye Bye Mattress program has recycled more than 5 million mattresses since 2016. This has prevented more than 4.5m m2 of waste from ending up in landfills. Foam accounts for approximately one-third of this by weight. According to the Mattress Recycling Council, which runs the project, more than 80% of a mattress is recyclable and can be converted into final products or industrial materials. Mike O'Donnell, General Director of MRC, said: "California has reached a milestone with this important achievement; through this project, the state is a global leader in mattress recycling. We will continue to build on this leadership by expanding free mattress recycling options across the state and helping to provide a greener California."     Source
