Arkema announces 20% capacity increase at Changshu PVDF production facility in China.

Arkema has announced a 20% increase in Kynar® PVDF production capacity at its Changshu facility in China. The new unit is expected to come on stream in 2028. This additional capacity has been planned to meet strong and continuously growing demand for Kynar® PVDF, which is evident across all key markets including lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems (ESS), high-performance coatings, chemical processing industries, semiconductor manufacturing, water filtration, and cables and wires. The project will be executed to the highest operational excellence standards, reflecting Arkema's commitment to continuously improving manufacturing operations across all its facilities worldwide.
Laurent Tellier, Senior Vice President of Arkema High Performance Polymers and Fluorine Gases, stated: "This expansion represents an exciting milestone for Arkema; we are once again investing with confidence to enhance and strengthen our capabilities in Changshu. This investment will enable us to support our customers' growth with more agile and reliable supply, while also responding to the market's continued and rapid need for innovation."

The project is supported by Arkema's strong global R&D ecosystem, which continues to lead in PVDF advanced applications and technologies. This ecosystem encompasses the Changshu R&D center in China as well as R&D centers in France, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Through these laboratories, Arkema is able to work in close collaboration with its customers to accelerate the development of high-performance solutions for energy transition and advanced manufacturing industries.

Arkema is the global leader in PVDF production, with the Changshu platform standing out as the world's largest production facility. The company also produces PVDF at its Calvert City facility in Kentucky, United States, where a capacity increase announced last year will be brought on line in the second quarter of 2026. Additionally, production is also carried out at the Pierre-Benite facility in France.
