Petrol Ofisi Invests in Sustainable Aviation
Petrol Ofisi Steps Up Sustainable Aviation Investments
Petrol Ofisi has accelerated its investments in sustainable aviation. Since March 2022, Petrol Ofisi has been supplying aircraft operated by Pegasus Airlines with Neste MY Sustainable Aviation FuelTM (SAF), which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 per cent, and is extending this partnership into 2024.
Under the new protocol signed, Petrol Ofisi aims to increase the volume of SAF supplied to Pegasus Airlines from İzmir Adnan Menderes and Ankara Esenboğa Airports by threefold in 2023 and tenfold in 2024. SAF, produced from 100 per cent renewable waste and waste feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste, can be used in aircraft engines or fuel infrastructure without requiring any modifications.
"We are investing in sustainable futures"
Speaking on the protocol, Petrol Ofisi Group Chief Executive Officer Mehmet Abbasoğlu said: "Petrol Ofisi Group continues to pursue investments and partnerships that will lead the sectors in which we operate and provide real added value to Turkey's economic future without slowing down. I can say with pride that Petrol Ofisi Group is one of the most important drivers of Turkey and regional aviation traffic. In the aviation sector, where we have been serving for more than half a century, our PO Air brand provides fuel services at 72 airports in Turkey and serves more than 250 airlines globally, with more than 250,000 aircraft annually. This major operation makes it imperative for us to take steps towards the benefit and future of both our sector and our relevant stakeholders. Therefore, we are pleased to strengthen and continue this partnership with Pegasus Airlines, which we believe is of vital importance to the aviation industry, and to invest in sustainable futures," he said. Speaking on the partnership, Pegasus Airlines Chief Executive Officer Güliz Öztürk said: "As Pegasus Airlines, we continue our efforts to support sustainable aviation in line with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) decision to achieve 'Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050'. To achieve this goal, it is of great importance to increase the use of SAF produced from low-carbon, environmentally friendly and sustainable sources. We have decided to strengthen and continue our partnership with Petrol Ofisi, which has been supplying SAF to our aircraft since March 2022. We aim to expand our partnership geographically within the country over the next two years. We will continue to work with all our strength to support sustainable aviation," she said. In line with the statement made, Petrol Ofisi, which prioritises sustainable aviation in line with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) goal of "Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050", of which it is a member, first supplied SAF fuel from Neste, a leading company in renewable fuels and circular solutions, indirectly to Pegasus Airlines flying from İzmir to Sabiha Gökçen in March 2022. In June and November of last year, Petrol Ofisi increased its cooperation with Neste through direct supplies from Neste, and continues to add value to the sector by increasing SAF supplies from İzmir Adnan Menderes and Ankara Esenboğa Airports. Jonathan Wood, Vice President for Renewable Aviation at Neste, commenting on the partnership with Petrol Ofisi, said: "As a company, we are committed to helping the aviation sector achieve its ambitious targets for emissions reduction. To this end, our partnerships with players in the fuel supply chain are critical. We are pleased to work with Petrol Ofisi and through this strategic partnership we hope to increase supplies of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel to airports and airlines in Turkey. Through ongoing investments at our refineries in Rotterdam, Netherlands and Singapore, we will increase SAF production capacity by 15-fold by the end of 2023," he said. Source (İHA)Advertisement
