Roadmap for Construction Revealed for $20 Billion Project

SASA Polyester's USD 20 billion Adana Yumurtalık Petrochemical Facilities investment project construction roadmap has been finalized. According to a statement from SASA, most recently, the company has completed the procurement of a significant portion of the land within the framework of the Special Industrial Zone in Yumurtalık, and with the expected urgent expropriation decision for the remaining portion, it plans to lay the foundation in the first half of this year. In the project where the investment amount previously determined at USD 11.8 billion has been increased to USD 20 billion, the facility construction roadmap has also been clarified. According to information provided by İbrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Erdemoğlu Holding, in Phase 1; between 2023-2026, a PDH and polypropylene production facility with 1 million tons capacity, a paraxylene and aromatic production facility with 2 million tons capacity and port construction, in Phase 2; between 2025-2028, a PDH and polypropylene production facility with 1 million tons capacity, a SAP facility with 200,000 tons capacity, a 2-EH facility with 100,000 tons capacity, an ACN facility with 300,000 tons capacity, a PTA production facility with 1.6 million tons capacity and a MEG production facility with 700,000 tons capacity, and in Phase 3, between 2027-2032, a refinery facility with 12 million tons capacity and integration completion followed by Phase 2 aromatic and paraxylene with 2 million tons capacity, MEG production with 700,000 tons capacity, polyethylene production facility with 1 million tons capacity and PVC production facility with 600,000 tons capacity are planned. SASA signed a license, technical service and warranty agreement with Honeywell UOP for establishing a propylene production facility in the Yumurtalık investment area with an investment amount of USD 1.5 billion. The propylene production facility with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026 and contribute USD 1.2 billion to revenue, will also significantly reduce Turkey's imports. With the production of 1 million tons of propylene, which is not produced in Turkey, the textile country, and which has annual imports of approximately 2.5 million tons, 40 percent of the demand will be met from domestic sources.   Source
