Soap Production Using Lake Van Water Burak Atal, 27, from Tatvan district in Bitlis, produced soap utilizing water from Lake Van. Burak Atal produces soap using Lake Van water, which naturally contains sodium chloride (salt) and sodium carbonate (soda), along with sodium hydroxide (caustic) and bitumen oil. He claims the soap he produces will remedy conditions such as eczema, itching, psoriasis, fungal infections, and rosacea. Stating he has worked in this field for 15 years, Atal said: "I started soap production two months ago. This idea came to me because Lake Van water is very therapeutic. Since it works very well for conditions like eczema, itching, psoriasis, and fungal infections, I chose to use Lake Van water. Previously I would tell my wholesalers to send Lake Van water to us so they could make soap for us. But they said it was impossible for them. I stood behind this idea and started production with this water. My product took off."

Water First Sourced from Lake Van

Atal explained that he first sources water from Lake Van: "First I filter these and clean them. Our water has a pH value of around 9.5. We combine it with natural oak wood ash, blend it and let it sit. Then we mix it with bitumen oil to obtain a fine organic bitumen oil soap and olive oil soap. I want to use different products as well. I can also use other oils like goat milk and donkey milk. We will try to do what we can, God willing."
