Introduction:

The "wellness" trend in hair care continues to gain momentum. Many of us are now joining a growing wave of beauty brands concerned with the concept of "healthy hair." Due to increasing demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable products in hair care, sales of natural and organic hair care products, particularly through specialty retailers, have witnessed substantial growth over the past few years. While "natural products" appeal to consumers concerned with product safety, they also feature simpler formulations free from controversial ingredients. Consumers expect more natural products and seek clean cosmetics. Today, any discussion related to hair care will sooner or later raise the silicone question—whether it causes more harm than benefit to your hair and the environment. This is only part of a rising trend. Behind these trends lie consumer attitudes. Following this trend, we present NoSilFix, a natural-based, silicone-free protective product designed to provide cuticle protection and optimal moisture retention. The product also prevents and repairs oxidative damage. It is a "hair food" rich in polysaccharides and amino acids and, most importantly, a new distribution system for hair care. Moreover, with NoSilFix, not only do next-generation alternatives to silicone-based products emerge, but the technology also encapsulates seaweed extract that shapes, repairs, and deeply moisturizes hair against electrostatic charge while improving the immediate appearance and feel of hair.

Hair Frizz and Silicone-Based Products

Hair frizz is a commonly observed problem that occurs when hair is exposed to a moist environment. Keratin protein plays a fundamental role in hair frizz. Hair fibers are hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing), and the amount of water absorbed depends on the relative humidity of the air, temperature, and fiber structure. Although hair fibers are hygroscopic, their surface is hydrophobic to water. The outer hair layer swells and cuticles crack, causing hair frizz. To prevent hair frizz, it is very important to moisturize hair on one hand and protect the cuticle on the other. For this reason, most existing anti-frizz products work either by creating a sealing film on the hair cuticle and preventing water absorption or by moisturizing hair fibers.

NoSilFix Anti-Frizz

NoSilFix consists of natural silica microparticles enriched with Chondrus Crispus extract dispersed in a molecular film. Thanks to the combination of its components, the silica particles gradually release Chondrus Crispus extract while forming a light, invisible film on hair fibers that protects them from external damage.

Penetration Studies with NoSilFix

To demonstrate that NoSilFix could improve the penetration of active components, we conducted ex-vivo penetration studies using FITC as a model active (FITC is a hydrophilic fluorescent marker): we compared its penetration into hair fibers when applied as a free component and when encapsulated within NoSilFix. Penetration was monitored using Confocal Scanning Microscopy. In the free active state, as shown in the figure, fluorescence is localized primarily at the fiber boundary: free active cannot disperse within hair fibers. In contrast, in hair treated with NoSilFix, fluorescence is distributed throughout the entire diameter and length of the fiber, enabling homogeneous distribution of the active along the fibers.

NoSilFix's Protective and Repair Capability

NoSilFix's protective and repair properties were also evaluated due to its ability to form a film on hair tissue and protect it from environmental effects, as well as its moisturizing properties. It acts as a shield and structural protector for tissue, helps protect healthy hair, and when necessary, deeply moisturizes, nourishes, and repairs hair.

Superior Anti-Frizz Capacity Under Challenging Conditions

NoSilFix loaded with Chondrus Crispus extract has also demonstrated exceptional anti-frizz capacity. When NoSilFix is applied to hair, a significant reduction in electrostatic charge is observed compared to results obtained with placebo. In fact, it is nearly three times more effective, and this difference becomes even more significant under challenging conditions (after exposure to steam): In this case, while placebo cannot prevent electrostatic charge, NoSilFix delivers exceptional results. After a single product application, hair is protected against electrostatic charge even under extreme conditions.

Moisture and Fiber Protein Content Protection

When NoSilFix is applied, moisturizing levels increase compared to control. This also indicates that it is an excellent moisturizing agent. When the product is used before hair damage (protection), there is a 65% improvement in hydrogen bonds, i.e., in moisturization. When hair is lightened and then treated, results are even more impressive: a 82% improvement is observed. The same analysis was conducted to evaluate protein content in hair fibers. After aggressive hair lightening treatment, protein content decreases significantly. In contrast, when NoSilFix is applied before or after hair lightening, protein levels are comparable to those of untreated hair. These results confirm that NoSilFix protects against protein loss and can restore optimal protein levels when hair damage occurs.

NoSilFix and Thermal Protection

Heat treatments on hair are common practices despite being highly aggressive and harmful to its composition. When this occurs, the outer cuticle and internal content of hair are affected by excessive dryness. Final studies have shown that applying NoSilFix before extreme heat conditions can protect moisture in hair against placebo by approximately 25% under both rinsing and holding conditions, and can also protect the protein content of the hair strand.

Conclusions

NoSilFix is an innovative hair care distribution system that enables excellent performance in hair care. It creates a light film on hair, protects it, and increases active ingredient penetration into hair fibers. Thanks to its mechanism of action, hair is moisturized and nourished. The product under NoSilFix technology (Anti-Frizz) demonstrates impressive anti-frizz properties even under challenging conditions. NoSilFix is an excellent aid for hair health and styling. Hair is protected and strengthened, gaining a healthier, more vibrant appearance.
