P&G Development Center Project Enters International Literature
P&G, a cleaning and personal care products company operating in Türkiye for 34 years, has published as a scientific paper a data analytics project implemented with artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) at its Gebze Development Centre, which it describes as Europe's newest 'Development Centre'. The article from P&G's Development Centre has thus entered academic literature.
P&G's Gebze Development Centre, where fabric care, home care and women's health products are manufactured, published the 'Data Analytics in Baby Diaper Production Lines' project developed jointly with Bahçeşehir University as a scientific paper. The project, which also received grant support from TÜBİTAK, provided real-time and historical traceability of parameter values measured on production lines. Through the project, which derives meaningful action inferences from this information using artificial intelligence methods and prevents disruptions in the lines, equipment-specific downtime numbers were reduced by 50 percent, while a 50 percent saving was achieved in baby diaper waste. With the project processing 5.5 billion data points daily, P&G received third place in the Information Visionary category at the IDC Türkiye DX Awards.
We became a case study in international literature
Gebze Plant Manager Başak Aydın, noting that the project emerged from the idea of line improvement and contributed to sustainability through the reductions it achieved in baby diaper waste, stated: "During our joint work with Bahçeşehir University, we provided the university with practical working opportunities. We became a case study in international literature. At the same time, since it offers the possibility of predicting possible line stoppages in advance, it will allow us to prevent these disruptions and maintain uninterrupted production processes." Aydın noted that in the coming period they aim to export the project to 4 different P&G factories abroad. It has become an attraction centre
Aydın, emphasizing that as P&G they produce 60 percent of products sold in Türkiye in Gebze, said: "At the Gebze Development Centre, which started operations in 2018, we have 3 main focus areas. These are product development with consumer data, process improvement with Industry 4.0 and production localization with supply chain stakeholders through open innovation. This work was one of the first examples of these 3 main focus areas." Aydın also noted that they listen to more than 5 million people in 20 thousand studies each year and determine their needs, saying: "We meet 60 percent of local consumption and export 20 percent of our capacity to more than 10 countries. Through the Gebze Development Centre, we implement localization and local needs-focused work with our business partners. Our centre has become an attraction point for many new talents with doctorate degrees."Advertisement
