A First for the Cosmetics Industry:

KÜAD (Cosmetics Manufacturers and Researchers Association) has created a "Consumer Handbook" to support the safety of cosmetic products and consumer awareness, with the association aiming to raise public knowledge. This comprehensive handbook will guide consumers on the contents of cosmetic products, their safe use and potential risks.

The launch event for the Consumer Handbook presentation was attended by KÜAD Chairman Levent Kahrıman, KÜAD Board of Directors, members of the Consumer Handbook Legislation and Legal Affairs Commission, KÜAD members and numerous press representatives. The members of the KÜAD Consumer Handbook Legislation and Legal Affairs Commission consist of Şule Küçükoğlu, Ü.Belgin Sile, Zeynep Erol, Mehtap Arslan Aydın, Tuğba Sekban Yılmaz, Burak Ayan, Seher İrem Çevik, Sibel Çelebi, Nursel Evrim and Ferhan Candar.

INFORMED CONSUMERS CAN CONDUCT MARKET SURVEILLANCE OVERSIGHT

KÜAD Chairman Levent Kahrıman: "The cosmetics sector is growing rapidly and e-commerce is making an important contribution to this growth. However, we have prepared a handbook to prevent the spread of counterfeit products and to raise consumer awareness. Although label literacy has increased in our country and worldwide, misinterpretation of symbols and meanings can lead to incorrect product use. Information gaps occur at all stages of the supply chain and this affects product safety. Label literacy among the institutions that supply, sell, produce and inspect products is of great importance. When consumers' label literacy skills increase, they move into a position to oversee all layers, stages, distributors and manufacturers that bring the product to them, and if a claim presented on the label is false, they report it to public institutions and begin to conduct market surveillance oversight, which in this sense is quite important work." he stated.

KÜAD Consumer Handbook Legislation and Legal Affairs Commission Chairman Şule Küçükoğlu:

"The purpose of the consumer handbook is to enable consumers to make informed decisions and to help protect consumer rights. We chose to simplify the handbook and use language that consumers can easily understand. The topic headings in our handbook include: What is a cosmetic product? Cosmetic raw material usage rates, what is dermocosmetology? Aromatherapy oils, domestic and imported products, mandatory information on labels, claims, symbols and marks, and information on chemical contents. Along with the developing cosmetics sector, we want consumers to have more knowledge about the contents written on product labels. For this reason, as KÜAD, we believe the consumer handbook will be a valuable resource for everyone," she stated.
