Cosmetics Sector Stood Out During Pandemic Nazan Demir, Director of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University's Cosmetic Products Application and Research Center, stated that the coronavirus pandemic affecting the entire world highlighted the importance of hygiene. Demir noted that the cosmetic industry sector proved to be of major significance during the pandemic and stressed the need for recognition of the sector's strength. All colognes, liquid and bar soaps, detergents and perfume products manufactured at the first Cosmetic Products Application and Research Center opened within a university in Turkey are composed of endemic plants and flowers from the Muğla region. The center, where research and development work on organic cosmetic products is conducted, is visited by citizens as well as students from primary, secondary and high school levels. Students in the 7th grade class of Yerkesik Elementary School received "Theoretical Awareness Training on Cosmetic Production" and "Applied Training on Making Cologne and Liquid Soap" at KOZMER. Information about the center's activities was provided to 7th grade students of Yerkesik Elementary School, with the participation of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çiçek, and liquid soap production was demonstrated in practice. Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Cosmetic Products Application and Research Center Director Prof. Dr. Nazan Demir stated: "During the pandemic period, using plants naturally grown in our region from rosemary to thyme and chamomile, we produced liquid soaps, organic detergents, organic colognes and all hygiene-related products, and in this way we made a significant difference across the entire country. It provided substantial contribution to our institution, and we also aimed to support rural development in terms of awareness." he said.

Cosmetics Industry Gained Momentum During Global Crisis

Demir, noting that the cosmetics industry was the fastest-growing sector during the global crisis experienced in the pandemic period, said: "Unfortunately, we are not aware of the sector's strength. Detergents and cosmetic products constitute 33 percent of our grocery shopping. During the pandemic, the importance of hygiene came to the forefront. Everyone turned to detergents, and a pollution developed in the Marmara region that we believe could be attributed to what we call excessive sea foam from detergents. Natural products, natural detergents, natural disinfectants gained incredible importance. Despite all this global crisis, the sector that continues to grow, growing with enormous strength, is cosmetics. Today's new wealthy of the world are cosmetic producers and hygiene producers. This will continue to grow. I say let us grasp the strength of the cosmetics sector as soon as possible. Let us institutionalize this. I reiterate the idea that the school where a small number of our students currently study here in Yerkesik should be transformed into a Cosmetics Faculty. Production here could perhaps be on a larger scale. Even if it only sold cologne and liquid soap, this system would provide very serious input." he said. KOZMER Director Prof. Dr. Demir, while warning about hygiene products used by citizens, also stated that there would be no cost-cutting in health and continued as follows: "We have already manufactured natural products, natural extracts, natural cold-pressed chamomile oil in our natural soaps, and our products are very high quality, and they have reached many people. Be sure to verify that the hygiene products you use are of the highest quality. Otherwise, you may encounter very different problems. Running from the rain only to be caught in the hail." Source
